Had our wedding reception there when I married Mrs Pogle in 2006. Stayed there too, opening the curtains and looking out on the Sound in the morning was a world class view - and that is no exaggeration! Absolutely stunning!! Then had breakfast downstairs at a window seat, absolutely beautiful. What a City we have! :nworthy:

Hope it doesn't become a view for rich people only. Fantastic site for a 'People's Hotel', hope it stays that way.

Sad how buildings built in my (our) lifetime need demolition! I feel old(er)!!

My first part time job as a waiter was in the Trusthouse Forte, as it was called then.

Always remember the view across the Sound, it is fantastic from there.

Remember getting paid cash in hand in a small white envelope every week! £3.37 an hour!

Knowing PCC and their current love for student flats, it'll most likely be more student accommodation.

Yes, that's how it opened in May 1970, just as I was about to leave school!

So what will go on the site? I would say with that view, executive accommodation would be an attractive option or a new ( much needed) four star hotel for the City. Marriott? Hilton? Malmaison?

According to the Herald on numerous occasions they have stated it well be replaced by a new luxury hotel with a conference centre. Apparently PCC have spoken to developers and major hotel chains who have shown alot of interest.

A new conference centre there could have major repercussions for any Home Park developments because there is only a limited need for conference facilities in this city.

Goodbye. The optimism of the time was admirable but they put up some truly awful buildings. Mind you, have things really changed?
