Looks like a nice high tide. I learnt to swim there (or my Dad chucked me in) at the seawater pool, hardly a lido was it!! Full of jellyfish and often freezing, but as City Centre swimming opportunities go it has to be right up there UK/Worldwide!!

Pogleswoody, i spent quite a bit of time paddling around on that slab as well, my mother used to play tennis at the Stonehouse Tennis and croquet club, used to jump over the wall by the ice cream hut and go exploring by myself. I did'nt learn to swim there, that was at Mount Wise pools.

This thread is full of nostalgia for me. I was born at Stonehouse and when a very little boy the mere mention of Devils Point in our house meant great paddling fun to me. However, like Ottawa, I learnt to swim at Mount Wise pools when we moved to Ernesettle and had our school swimming lessons there. The day I finally mastered swimming was the same day I was told I had passed the 'scholarship' with a 'B' pass and as a result I went to Public. Funny thing is when we had our annual school swimming gala there, it was at the Hoe swimming pool. A semi circular shape with a fountain in the middle....hardly a level playing field!

Moves are being made to grab some of Devils Point for a Royal William Yard overflow car park:
