1) Argyle unchanged starting 11 but the welcome sight of Ryan Taylor on the bench with Callum Dyson the one making way. This match risked the appearance of an over confident Argyle perhaps for the first time since Walsall. Another team in red to face, would this be our fist win against one for a while?

2) Argyle dominated the half, we kept the ball really well and managed to get a few shots away. With dominance on the pitch the crowd was quiet and then became restless as Argyle tried to break down a stubborn Stevenage defence. Stevenage won a few corners but apart from that were kept at arms length.

3) Ladapo had his usual 1 v 1 but left it too late to pull the trigger. On another day Argyle couldn't have at least one pen with Grant tumbled in the box by a lunging tackle. Carey had a couple of shots go wide and went close with a free-kick but overall we couldn't get the quality of chance against a packed defence.

4) Stevenage picked up a couple of yellows in the first as they turned to desperation with J Grant and Carey running past them at ease. The game was crying out for Lameiras and with Taylor on the bench I half expected to see them at some point if the scores stayed level.

5) Argyle made a poor start to the second unable to retain possession wihout Ness especially poor perhaps he was injured. Within 10 minutes of restart the injured Ness was replaced by Lameiras. Almost immediately Ladapo played him in but he mis kicked completely. Another few moments and he set up Carey whose fierce shot just went wide.

6) Further chances came and went and time began to run out. There was a long injury break for a Stevenage player who eventually went off on a stretcher. Argyle still couldnt find the killer ball. Grant and Lameiras both found the keeper instead of a colleague and the ball just bounced off Ladapo.

7) Moore had a poor game as did Ness before he went off but maybe he was carrying an injury. Lameiras was a mixture of blinding brilliance and shocking wastefulness as was Carey. Songo'o had another solid game and both Grant's were good although Joel faded as the game went on.

8 ) Adams seemed to leave his substitutions too late again. The build up began to look predictable as the rain came down heavily and the ref gave 10 minutes of injury time. Finally the goal came. Fox's shot was parried by the keeper and Lameiras finally found the quality to beat the despairing dive.

9) Shockingly quiet Argyle crowd. They only really got going for a couple of periods in the second. The feeling when the goal went in was more of relief that we finally had broken through. The most worrying thing was that we took so long to break down such a poor defence. Still, in the hat for the next time round.

They parked the bus. We huffed and puffed. They wasted time at every opportunity. We often hesitated or chose the wrong option when around their goal. All our best efforts came from Reuben. Although hard work by Foxy in the lead up was the match turning moment.

Moore had another poor game offensively and is weak link in this team. Carey got frustrated and got his customary booking - think that may mean a ban?

Mainly a feeling of relief at the end. Won’t live long in the memory but 36k banked will pay a few bills.

A frustrating game but I think we got what we deserved in the end. We showed composure & patience.

A tedious game with Stevenage coming for the replay. Not sure anyone will remember the game in the morning.

We’ve got to deal better with stubborn play if we want to climb in the league so this is good practice if nothing else. The players delight at the goal was plain to see.

Not sure anyone shined and pretty sure some players will want to forget the game as such as the supporters.

Matt Macey - 7
Tafari Moore - 4
Yann Songo'o - 6
Niall Canavan - 5
Connor Grant - 6
David Fox - 6
Jamie Ness - 5

Graham Carey - 6.5

Freddie Ladapo - 5

Ruben Lameiras - 6

Lucky

Clueless,

Poor offensively.

Who was Lucky?

Based on the match stats we dominated possession and had 15 shots vs their 2! 5 on target.

Who was Clueless. Stevenage certainly didn't have a clue about winning the game - they came for a draw.

Could Argyle have done better. Yep. But we won and move on!!

It's always difficult to score against a parked bus. We got there in the end. We won and deserved the win.

The crowd have been beaten into submission by the club. Hence the quiet atmosphere. Well done to those in high authority. Don't come back later in the season to ask for more support from the stands. You've killed it.

I don't have an issue with parking the bus as such, I've seen us do it, but I do have an issue with parking the bus & in addition to that having no intention of playing a game of football in any form, which is what Stevenage did. Graham Westley left them a while ago but he's still there in spirit.

Crowd respectable in the circumstances. Well done GA.

We need a RB I'm worried.

Ruben needs to start.

Ness injury a concern. He's another injury prone.

Great that Taylor is back in the mix. Vital for our propects.

Let's hope for another gimme tie in R2 and a money spinner in R3.

Is Westley back managing Stevenage?

It was very nearly a frustrating afternoon but thankfully the deserved £36,000 winning goal by Lameiras came in the 94th minute after 10 minutes were signalled by the fourth official.

Stevenage came to defend and sit back in numbers and soak up the pressure, we had several half chances without creating many real clear cut chances, overall we dominated the game with 15 goal attempts compared to just two for Stevenage and we had 57% possession.

The two wide players, Joel Grant and Graham Carey, played really well and I reckon it was Carey's best game of the season. He tried several shots after cutting in from a wide position and either had his shot saved or skim just wide, he had an effort early in the second half that he should have aimed on target from a central position but the ball went just wide.

Freddie Ladapo has his usual run through on goal in the first half before getting it all so wrong, this time he hesitated and a defender recovered and tackled him. It appears to be in every game now that Ladapo breaks clear and runs through on goal.

It was a dominant first half without actually creating a clear goal scoring opportunity, mainly because Stevenage defended in numbers.

Ness was subbed early in the second half in what looked like an injury he picked up during the first period ("Give us 10 minutes Nessy") and was replaced by Lameiras with Sarcevic moving back 10 yards to partner Fox in deep midfield.

The theme throughout the game was get it wide to Carey and Joel Grant and play from there and with Lameiras now playing behind Ladapo we had a technician in a central area.

The probing and patient play continued but still the goal wouldn't come.

Sadly Steve Seddon went down with a serious injury and there was a long delay while he received treatment and left the pitch on a stretcher, hopefully he is ok.

The goal came after we put a huge amount of pressure on the Stevenage defence, Carey had a right foot shot well saved, the ball eventually found its way to Lameiras on the edge of the area and his low left foot shot found the corner of the net. Relief was felt around the stadium and on the pitch.

Stevenage were now interested in attacking us and apart from one slip by Macey we defended with ease to claim a place in the hat for the draw on Monday.

Carey was fantastic and was in the mood, it helped that he didn't have to waste energy tracking back because Stevenage rarely ventured forward.

Joel Grant on the other wing was just as good and linked well with Conor Grant.

The two centre backs were dominant when they were needed, Conor Grant had another good game while Moore once again struggled with his distribution and often wasted possession. He does get into good attacking areas when he overlaps but then wastes the ball.

Fox was just Fox, no more words are needed.

Sarcevic wasn't really in the game and drifted through it.

The team needed more from Ladapo although it must have been tough playing against a packed defence.

Apart from his winning goal (obviously) Lameiras made a difference when he came on and once again linked well with Carey.

The ref was hit and miss - good at times and annoying at other times, we had a few shouts for a penalty in the first half but nothing given.

A fully deserved win and a performance that was so much better than a lot of previous games this season. We moved the ball well and kept good possession, we didn't hit long hopeful balls and the passing was good and to feet.

Man of the Match - Carey.

Macey 6, Moore 5, Songo'o 7, Canavan 7, C Grant 7, Fox 7, Ness 6, Sarcevic 6, Carey 8, J Grant 8, Ladapo 6. Sub - Lameiras 7.

No different to what we did at Anfield, albeit slightly more successfully.
