If Argyle succeed in beating Exeter City in the first round of the FA Youth Cup at St James Park next Wednesday evening (October 31), the draw for round two, which took place earlier today, has given them another away tie in that round, away to the winners of the Colchester v Stevenage first round tie.

Argyle have six second-year apprentices in their starting line-up: Adam Randell, Michael Peck, Aaron Goulty, Tom Purrington, Klaidi Lolos and Rio Garside.

The rest of the side is made up of first-year apprentices Harry Townsend, Joe Seery, Reuben Collum, Ollie Tomlinson and Jude Boyd.

There are three under-16s among Argyle’s five substitutes. Shaun Hillier, Finley Craske and Jimmy Miller.

Exeter City start with 15-year-old Jay Stansfield in attack. The name will be familiar to many as he is the eldest son of City striker Adam Stansfield, who sadly passed away at the age of 31 in 2010.

Jay yesterday signed a two-year apprenticeship with the Grecians.

Exeter have made an early breakthrough in the sixth minute after a long ball was played over the top of the Argyle defence, which was playing a high line.

Lewis Wilson raced clear and as Argyle goalkeeper Harry Townsend hesitated about whether to race out towards him the Exeter player lifted the ball over him and into the net.

The set piece was awarded on the edge of the penalty area by referee Stuart Kane for a foul on Aaron Goulty.

Garside and captain Adam Randell stood over the ball before Garside stepped up and curled his shot into the net.

Exeter regain the lead

It takes Exeter only three minuites to restore their lead. Joe Belsten puts in an excellent low cross which was flicked into the net from close range by Lewis Wilson.

That’s two goals already in this first round tie for Wilson.

The injured Jude Boyd is replaced by substitute Finley Craske in the 35th minute.

His older brother, Billy, was part of the Pilgrims’ squad which reached the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup last season.
