1) Argyle unchanged completely. Hopefully Songo'o and Matthews wouldn't repeat their first 45 performances from last week. Feel that we will continue to miss Bradley. Argyle started sloppily and after an early warning Argyle were 1 down within minutes form a long range effort.

2) Argyle pressed, mainly down our left and a flick from Taylor went agonisingly close. Lameiras casual in possession, lost the ball and a quick break cost us a second. We were out of sorts and being punished. Ness and Makasi couldn't seem to get going and Sawyer looked like our only outlet but the ball got lost too often in the final third.

3) Matthews made another poor decision and came for a ball outside the area. Obvious handball and Matthews was lucky to stay on the pitch. Argyle had a bright spot towards the end of the half but never really looked like scoring. At the other end Charlton came close a few times and won a series of corners. Matthews made a good save but the defence looked all over the place.

4) Very few highlights of the first from an Argyle perspective. Lameiras was the only outlet and got himself into food positions but when he got there was poor. Carey too looked crowded and seemed to have Ness and Sawyer with him every time he got the ball. It all felt like a game from October with no-one really being sure what to do and no obvious plan B.

5) We needed a change of plan or personnel - we were far too predictable. What would Adams do? Nothing. We started the second exactly as we finished the first. Once again a short pass from Lameiras let Charlton in. The ball flashed wide of the far post and Matthews watched it go past. It was enough and ATS and Fletcher on for Lameiras and Songo'o.

6) We were now 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield and Sawyer as left side centre back. Argyle continued to over elaborate and too many times we worked it quickly to the edge of the area only to turn back and play a square ball to a Charlton shirt. It still wasn't working and with 20 to go Paul Paton was on for Fox.

7) Argyle weren't at the races with too many players under par. Vyner had one of his worst games in a green shirt and both his centre back partners were worse. In midfield we gave ball after ball away. Even the normally dependable Fox and Threlkeld were poor.

8 ) Charlton looked like the more likely to score and went close a couple of times. Argyle had played all their cards and looked to be beaten. Carey dribbled into the box but kept going instead of passing. We had few ideas but we kept trying them again and again and again and again.

9) The end of a run. I'd like to be able to say we lost to a better team but we didn't. We were poor all over the pitch and apart from Taylor's flick that rolled agonisingly close I can't remember a shot that was even close to target, maybe a drive from Carey. We looked like the team that was bottom of the league. If we have any pretensions of the play offs we will need to be much better.

‪Not a disaster and need to stay positive but worry we could start to fade if we carry on with the same defence for much longer, desperately need Bradley back or Sawyer to move across to CB.

To lose both first choice CB’s at the same time is just utter bad luck.

It’s on par with losing Oscar and Taylor

I'd say Vyner is by far our best CB to be honest.

Completely agree, along with Sarcevic we have lost our rock steady defence and the hard work and bustle Sarcevic brings to the midfield.

1-0 down and Taylor hits the post and probably a game changer. However 2nd best all over the pitch and disappointed with the 2nd half performance. No urgency and looked so short of ideas.

Need to bounce back against Southend or the season my well just quietly draw to a close

An oddly flat performance from the team and the fans. Dust ourselves off and move on

Freak wonder goal after 4 minutes, conceding early like that set the tone for the rest of the game.

They were much more up for it than we were today - it happens. Dust ourselves down, win on Friday, and we're right back on it.

It was just one of those days where nothing went right, after going two goals down early in the first half the climb at the cavernous Valley was too much.
It was the first time in 20 games that we failed to score.

Despite going two goals down I thought we played better in the first half than the second, especially in attack.

There was hardly any reaction from the players in the second half, some players went missing, Carey as one example.
The second half performance was reminiscent of those horror games earlier in the season.
Something didn't look right today, maybe the hype and play-off pressure has got to the players?

The substitutes didn't have any affect on the game.

We need to show we are actually a good team and bounce back against Southend.

For the first half we were good in attack, the Ness, Sawyer and Carey triangles on the left caused problems.
We were suspect to crosses and clearly miss Bradley.
Matthews could have done better with the first goal and had another walkabout but did make two good saves.

We needed more from our right side with everything coming through Sawyer on the left.

Taylor saw his shot pushed onto the post and soon after Charlton doubled their lead from an unmarked header.
From that point the ball boys downed tools to slow down the game.

An early second half goal may force a wobble in the Charlton team.

It didn't happen. There was no energy, no momentum with attacks too slow and ponderous.

Matthews made two more good saves and Carey had a shot go just over and that was about it for the second half.

The early goals killed the atmosphere for the 3000 Green Army.

Only Ness, Sawyer and Vyner can emerge with any credit.
Matthews, despite his good saves, doesn't inspire confidence when the ball is played through.

Man of the match - Vyner.

Matthews 5, Threlkeld 5, Vyner 7, Songo'o 5, Sawyer 6, Fox 5, Ness 7, Makasi 5, Lameiras 5, Carey 5, Taylor 6. Subs Fletcher 4, Taylor-Sinclair 5, Paton 4.

Is there anything more annoying than sitting in front of someone whose only contribution is to repeatedly shout ‘close him down!’, ‘tackle him!’ and ‘break his legs!’ the whole game?

These people never seem to know any of the players’ names either.

Flat on and off the pitch, rubbish day but there will still be better ones this season.

Lack of pace and width throughout the game. First half to relieve pressure with passes out of defence forced central to feet.

Second half we were very side to side, crossing from deep or with no one attacking far post again due to lack of width.

Surprised to see Paton come on for Fox. Surely Grant or Ainsworth would have offered greater pace, dribbling, width and directness. Or moving Carey wide away.

Missing Sarcevic's energy and the second goal maybe doesn't happen with Bradley playing.

On to the next game!

Vyner will play in the PL one day, no doubts there

I actually thought we were pretty good in the first half. Bar a wonder goal and switching off for the second, we passed it well and opened them up on the left hand side several times.

Second half was a complete non event, played in seeming slow motion.

I hadn’t realised before how one footed Makasi is, I don’t think he touched it once with his right foot.

Fletcher fairly ineffective as well unfortunately, he got in behind once but telegraphed a turn inside and was easily dispossessed.

Head is numb. Not sure if thats the cold or watching the football.

That was pretty awful. Against a side that were hit by injuries and calll ups.

Im trying to think of a postive but having watched that "kick n rush" style all second half then lm struggling.

Nobody really stood out. We lacked ideas & imagnation. Often being too slow to the ball.

If we are going to play narrow you need full backs with pace who can cross the ball. Our side is very immobile. We have craft & creativity with Carey and Lameiras but our lack of pace in our team leaves us exposed defensively, whilst going forward we are static.

When we can overload the middle of the park then we can get our system to work. Unfortunately today we ended up constantly hoofing the ball up to Taylor. It was "Robbie Turner" hoofball at its finest.

Charlton should have won by more goals. They had some decent chanced which narrowly missed. Argyle huffed and puffed but saying it was turgid is the nicest way of putting whatever the game plan was today.

Everyone will say its one bad result from a number of great results. It was just more the manner of how badly we looked today and knowing we dont have much in the squad to change it for Peterborough.

Argyle have some very good league one players. Yet half that team todaat least needs releasing and replaced. We are still a work in progress.
