Does anyone actually know the cost to the club to police away supporters and is it the police who determine
the amount allocated or is it the club who weigh up the finances ?

Going back to the Oxford game three thousand empty seats in the ground on the day but due to segregation
Argyle were only allowed 1800, similar will happen over the next few weeks with Rovers and Portsmouth
coming to town. Understand that segregation is required but say 2000 extra supporters @ £20 is 40k how
much of this would be absorbed by police outlay. In the FA Cup you have to allocate 15% which in our case
would equate to 2650 away fans.

It is the Police who decide how many officers they use at matches. The general rule is that the Club pays for police inside the ground but not outside. A number of Police Forces have tried to charge Clubs for all policing used but have been challenged in court by Clubs such as Wigan and the football clubs have won the case.
This is one of the reason the Police seldom if ever do traffic management at games like they used to at Argyle.

With segregation often the number of away fans is limited due to the configuration of the ground. At Oxford to give Argyle more tickets would have meant moving season ticket holders, something I wouldnt appreciate if it happened to me.

Thanks HG Green, not overly enamoured at the thought of more away fans in the ground certainly if that raises their noise level and spurs the away team
on, but additionally the potential of earning extra 100k over couple of sold out games would help on the ground update or paying players or ground staff etc.
