Wigan get docked 12 points this season so why not Wednesday? Pity, was hoping they'd be joining us in League 1 next season.

They will be entitled to appeal. In the meantime in which division should they play if the points deduction had been applied to 2019-20 season? By deducting them from next season it allows ten months for any appeal to be heard. I suspect the possibility of an appeal was behind why the verdict wasn't announced until now.

Looks like Charlton may have beaten them to it, and hardly surprising.....

Once again the EFL have a process that isn't fit for purpose...how can Wigan be made to take their penalty this season and get relegated with a. 12 point penalty as per the rules but Wednesday ( or anyone else) get a seasons grace.....just because the rule is new?

I don't buy the give them time to appeal it solution....Wigan are already challenging theirs so do them at the same time.

In effect if they broke the rules they get the benefit denied to Charlton of a further year in the Championship.

If the EFL is serious about proper governorship of clubs financially they cannot then prevaricate over implementing their rules....

It is already cynical enough that clubs will consider their league position when determining if and when to go into admin.....and sooner or later the EFL will have to grasp the nettle and set a timeframe for these things that clubs have to follow that cannot gerrymander the league position of a club that has broken the rules.

The rules on deductions for going into administration came to the current application due to Leeds trying to enter admin AFTER mathematically being relegated and attempting to get their points deduction to mean nothing. I can't see Wigan's appeal being successful. Why is their administration different to anyone else's?

Sheffield Wednesday's process hasn't yet concluded though so how can it be applied immediately?

The EFL does not appear to be fit for purpose. Like the government their communication and decision making leaves a lot to be desired.

There would be nothing to stop the penalty being applied now and then any appeal process being concluded. The problem here seems to be the EFL dragged its feet over the initial process so the time for appeals etc is now being compacted . Had it not been for the pandemic the season would have been over well before they made the decision....as it was Wednesday broke the rules, tried to hide it and are now keeping the benefit of having additional finance for last season and potentially an extra season of Championship revenues for the next.

Hardly seem equitable to the others does it....
