Sunderland £4M L1

Now the Window has closed and the rumoured £400K for Freddie goes no further than an Internet Thread, I thought it surprising how little seems to be made of a L1 Club spending £4M on one Player. (More than Alan Shearers' first big Transfer fee)

I'm not sure if its a record for a move TO the 3rd Division but it's certainly up there !

I cant decide if it's a new precedent being set, a reminder of how it will eventually all go wrong for one of the bigger spending Clubs or a good investment to ensure promotion.

Is it a sign of real ambition and intent or a very expensive way of trying to compete with a Club like us, Accrington and AFC Wimbledon. A massive Club spending a fortune to do one better than Burton ?

There be rocks ahead.

It wont be too often that a League One club will still be receiving parachute payments. Having managed to move on the likes of Jack Rodwell, their PL relegation insurance policy of £34m this season and the last one next of £15m, will go a lot further in this division than it would in the Championship.

Insulting offer for Ladapo given the absolute mugs fee they've paid for a tired chant. Can't wait for them to bottle promotion and their 2nd season on Netflix have more fans sh#tting in the stands and abusing managers.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Going to Sunderland away in March, just the kind of away game Adams' teams like to pinch a point in. The famous North East "best football fans in the country" would be apoplectic.

fudge the point let’s go for the jugular with Freddie banging the winner late in the Game to send the fans into meltdown.

They've obviously got the money and it's their prerogative to fritter it away in the hope of clawing their way back up the Leagues, but it's a Fingers up to all the other Clubs in L1. Pompey arrogance but with the cash to back it up.

Several Million Pounds out of the account and the pressure is on now to catch up with the mighty Luton. It's a display of the gross excesses and overvaluation that obviously follows you out of the Premier League.

They haven't paid £4 million.

Apparently it's closer to £1.5-£2 million.
There are add ons that could take it there but Sunderland would have to be a premier league club for the price to reach those levels.

This is why, despite our previous history of rivalry with Luton, I am really hoping they win League One. It will be two fingers up to the big guns of League one and also to Nathan Jones who inexplicably left them for Stoke at a crucial point of the season.

Luton's gates are generally lower than ours and they've only recently escaped non league football so its a good indicator of what Argyle could achieve with the right players/management.
