Wonderful, proper heritage clubs Hartlepool and Chester both on the point of going under for the want of a couple hundred grand and there go the EPL blowing £400M on transfers in a single month without so much as a nod to the plight of the grass roots clubs who so desperately need help. Utterly obscene and beyond pathetic. :furious:

Here’s some perspective; Mahrez has thrown his toys out of his pram, he didn’t get his big move therefore he missed training. He’s very naughty so the club are fining him two weeks wages......

:iagree:

Yeah it is very selfish of those big clubs to just watch and let those magnificent clubs die!

I hope they can be saved somehow.

Tesco have gone out and purchased new shopping trollies, money that could well have saved a few local convenience stores.

It's not just football!

Agreed.

It's not the job of the larger clubs to rescue those who can't keep their finances in order.

Mahrez is paid what the market will bear. The market can bear it because the extent of football fans' outrage is a few phone calls to talksport and a couple hundred tweets. That will change nothing. What needs to happen is a complete diversion of money and attention. That means cancelling premium channels and supporting local football. Appealing to the good nature of an elite group and hoping for some kind of trickle-down football economy is frankly naive.

...Apart from actually it is the big clubs’ fault for normalising such ludicrous salaries which eventually trickle down to the lower leagues.

They can only do that because of the premium channels and the money they've thrown at it.

Good point. I’m not an expert on the matter, is a certain percentage of Premier League Clubs’ turnover reinvested back into FA schemes and initiatives?

By that logic, every person who subscribes to Sky/BT is just as at fault as the Premier League clubs are......

Yep, that's about the long and short of it.

The Premier League couldn't behave the way they do without the money given to them.

It's like parents who blame MacDonalds for their kids being fat. If you can't understand the depth of your own responsibility then the problem's not going away.

I wouldn't say that the Premier League have this money given to them. They sell a product that is very much in demand and they get top dollar for it.

It is true that premier clubs sell a product in demand. We the public create that demand. So one solution is for the public to stop attending games or subscribing to channels offering the product. It is interesting that the obscenity of a footballer who earns may be £2 or 3 or even 4 k a week is seen by many as ok yet for a person who wears a suit and adds value to the community it is perceived by many as a sin.

Ultimately the solution sits in the hands of the supporters - do not go, do not subscribe to Sky sport, Bt sport channels etc. Without the revenue they cannot pay the football bodies silly screening rights.

You might find a handful of people willing to boycott but most of use enjoy going and enjoy watching on TV. I'm not going to stop subscribing because I like what I get for my money. Yeah, it could be a bit cheaper to watch live but can you imagine the problems the lower leagues would have if what they were selling was more expensive than what Premier League clubs were charging.

Sadly, you are right. It that was the case, smaller clubs would be even more reckless with their finances. It's all about personal responsibility. In this case the responsibility of owners and boards to run their clubs according to their means.
