Once again our trip to Liverpool is mentioned and Andrew Parkinson is mentioned. I have never met him but others on here have and have said nothing but praise about him - Mr Hallett has said the same too.

Just imagine how different our club could be today had Mr Hallett simply taken the money from the Liverpool matches and ran rather than decide that Mr Parkinson was the man to deliver his vision.

A true sliding doors moment

JB was the Chairman for the Liverpool games and he was the Chairman when Parky was approached.

I met him very briefly at the away game at Bolton when I was lucky enough to get VIP tickets to the directors box. He come across as a very nice and polite man who was happy to engage with me.

An unusually worthwhile article in the Daily Mail that somehow sidestepped the Sidebar of Shame, interviewing a rare case of value from a Plymouth College education!

Point taken, but in terms of economic output from a Plymouth based education, I wonder what school a certain Mr Dawson attended in Plymouth? Given the fees charged, one would anticipate Plymouth College producing successful pupils in all walks of life.

I ought to point out that in the mid-1960s, one third of the year's input at Plymouth College got academic scholarships from state schools. My Dad worked in the Dockyard & I wasn't the only one.

His daughter went to Plymouth College. No idea about him, but he strikes me as a School of Life graduate!

Spot on! He was always a grafter he used to set up a trestle table in the canteen at Blue Circle in the 70s to flog his wares to the workers at lunchtime. My late mum used to work there and she remembered him as a bit of a cheeky chappy with all the patter!

According to Wikipedia, Mr Dawson went to Plymstock, the first comprehensive in West Devon. When growing up I found Plymouth College's try-hard great public school schtick tiresome and pretentious. But looking at their snazzy website, it's now the place 'Where everything is possible'. Not much about their history there and the alumni page is down. They've had some good ones, of course. My favourite is probably the late Argyle obsessive, Michael Foot.

That sounds high, but they and other fee-paying schools did and do have them. I checked their current website and they're coy about the number/proportion of scholarships and fee discounts (up to 10% off!). It'll set you back at least 20K a year to do your A levels there. Of much greater importance, among all their elite sporting alumni, have they ever had an Argyle player?!
