Can’t argue with that really. I notice a number of issues are now starting to come to the boil as we get nearer to kick off, treatment of the workers being a biggie.

Cantona says he won’t be watching it but I’m not sure I can take that stance. I don’t agree with it being held in Qatar but where it’s played is completely out of my control.

Anyone else giving it a miss?

I will be watching, but it is clearly nonsense to hold it in a country with such a lamentable human rights record and zero football tradition.

Hopefully some of the more conscientious players and more diligent journalists can embarrass the Qataris a bit during the course of the tournament, but I'm not holding my breath.

Can't say this WC is enthusing me. The issue of workers rights has been around for years with no one at FIFA caring a jot. So many workers killed by inept work practices that, in this country would probably be called manslaughter. Passports confiscated, workers treated as slaves. The whole episode of allocating the WC to Qatar was based on fraud. The whole package is unsavoury, yet here we go, lets forget all that and enjoy the spectacle built on the graves of innocent workers. Just as well England are playing so badly, as I won't have to justify watching it for more than a week.

I've always loved Eric for having a mind of his own and agree with him. Sadly it's hard to not watch England in the finals, but if our brand of football remains as dull as its been I may well switch off.
I'm not sure ex centre halfs are capable of producing creative teams.

I saw that as well.

Then went on to justify why England are going; '...to shine a light' on the situation which is what the workers want apparently.

I read that Denmark will be sending some message on their training gear and Kane is speaking with his team mates to see if they can make some form of protest. Here's a form of protest Harry; dont go.

Seems everyone is against this happening but are still going anyway.

Money is ugly.

I don't think booze is going to be entirely banned, I'd imagine it'll be sold (expensively) in fan zones and so on. There will definitely be zero tolerance for public drunkenness though.
Fans also need to be careful about how closely they engage with members of the opposite sex that they are not married to.

Custodial sentence if you’re caught being too casual.

England fans coping with a zero tolerance policy on drinking alcohol will be interesting.
I love reading travel advice tips from people who have never been to places before. For the record alcohol is not illegal in Qatar...there are a multitude of drinking establishments there - they are in the hotels (also for the World Cup at the fanfests and stadiums). I've a happy hour print out of places I will frequenting in November and December. I for one couldn't care less about the politics or issues surrounding the World Cup...it will be the best organised - that's for sure.

Good luck not tuning in.

I don't see the point of not tuning in. Not going to achieve very much! However it's a bit uncaring and blinkered to have no concern about the issues raised. You are having fun whilst others have suffered or died to achieve that.

You can’t drink outside though, can you? There’s no need to be so condescending. Sorry that I’m clearly not so well-travelled or cultured as you..
