We”ll see.
For me playing the same system for every minute in every game is a weakness, not a strength.
You need flexibility in your 11 ( so you can change things round between games, and during games) - and good utility players, like Matt Butcher....
I agree . Teams now know how we are set up and will obviously try to exploit our weaknesses. We need to be more flexible to keep the opposition guessing and add a bit of steel to our play.

Bournemouth lad and thought well of at Stanley. They offered him a new deal but he turned it down. On paper a sound signing. It will be interesting to see where he fits into the squad.

Welcome abourd the good ship Mayflower

This to me is a solid signing. Butcher can cover 2 positions. CDM against teams where we need a bit more physicality/aerial strength and also would be an able backup to the LCB/CB positions where our number 1 LCB does have a history of injuries.

People seem to think he can play at the back, where's that come from? Has he actually played there?

I know it’s only a game (although some teams genuinely use it for scouting and databased stuff), but Football Manager has him down as a CM/CDM with the ability to also play CB.

A quick look on Flashscores app shows that last season he played two positions for Accrington, CM in the middle of a 3 and also LCB when Accrington played a back 3. I think he’s similar to Yann Songo’o (a better player of course), in that he can play in both midfield and centre back.

One of the things that was mentioned by Dewsnip l believe on signing him was he will bring much need physicality to the team. ( edited to say it was Schumacher not Dewsnip. Below is the quote).

“Matt is a very technically gifted footballer who has also got physical attributes that we are needing to strengthen our midfield.

Butcher mentioned about his goal scoring and that he is looking to score more. He sounded to me from his interview he is very much here to play in midfield. I am wondering if he is ear marked for Mayor’s position.

Or maybe Argyle might invert the current formation to a 3-4-1-2 and allowing for a more free role behind the forward pair. Perfect for Mayor to have less defensive responsibilities.
