EFL statement ...

For League matches during the 2021/22 season, Clubs were able to field three substitutes from seven nominated. For all League fixtures going forward, Clubs will be allowed to name up to seven substitutes on their team sheet with no more than five being able to take part in the match.

"Each Club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the fixture and a Club may make more than the one substitution at each of its three opportunities. Clubs may make substitutions at half time and any substitutions made during this break will not count towards the maximum of three opportunities."

This will benefit the bigger budget clubs unfortunately.

It might be an issue in terms of teams with stronger squads being advantaged, but surely this is positive for our younger players also as the ability to get minutes rather than just bench time must go up too!

When Lowe was manager he admitted the 5 subs rule muddled his thinking and gave the example of making two subs before half time away to Fleetwood ( one was Camara in the 11th minute) and three more at half time.

Where will it end? Be able to bring on a specialist free kicker next, just like American football.
It'll probably end in rolling subs as in other sports, where you can bring players on and off to your hearts content.

As a spectactor I don't like too many subs - not that people care about those watching. It's easy to forget exactly who is on the field and adapt that to tactical analysis. It can lead to the latter part of games becoming disjointed.

The only rule I ever agreed with was stopping the keeper picking up a backpass.
This just means Wycombe will have 15 minutes added time.
The games rules being changed all the time makes it less and less like football.

This is pretty big, because it means you can put 1 and a half sides out instead of under 1 and a third, clearly benefitting clubs with bigger squads with more talent.

Every single rule change now seems to be benefitting the big clubs and widening the gap, would be nice to see some that did the opposite.
