He obviously had ability when he was with us, but he was never the right keeper for that season behind that defence, we needed someone more confident and more experienced, hence why Letheren, despite not being as technically/athletically gifted, did a better job. In hindsight we probably should have kept McCormick for that season.

I agree. A reasonable keeper playing behind a defence made of tissue paper
But it also felt to me that the defence did not trust/understand Macy and this was a contributing factor to some of the silly errors. When Letheren was playing it felt that the defence had more confidence in him, and made fewer errors. Maybe I am wrong, but that was my sense of the response of the players to both keepers.

I agree with your senses Obi Wan.

Macey was a poor keeper which his defence recognised. Unfortunately, they don’t pick the team.

He’s done well behind every other defence he’s played behind - and has just come off the back of a fine season as first choice for Hibs - which would suggest it was the defence that made his job a lot harder, rather than the other way round.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell with Luton before he signed for Argyle, so they’d know him well - wouldn’t surprise me at all if they’re interested in him.

Really? Even during his little jaunt to Accrington?

When at Luton he only managed 4 clean sheets out of 13 appearances.

He played for Luton under Nathan Jones, and now the same manager’s about to sign him for his upwardly mobile Championship side. Probably a better judge of his previous time at Luton than someone who’s just googled his clean sheet record, wouldn’t you say?

You know this or are you just going by some rumour that you’ve read?

Also, maybe I spoke with a Luton fan about Maceys time there rather than using Google. You shouldn’t judge the way other people gather info by the methods you use.

I think Shilton in his prime would have been in trouble behind that amazingly
awful defence. Probably the worse defence I’ve seen in 50 odd years at Home Park and believe me I’ve seen a few

As someone else mentioned earlier, Letheren did ok when he took over while Macey was out injured 🤷‍♂️

Another way of looking at it is that an arguably decent manager, Lee Johnson, that has just arrived at Hibs is actually willing to let Macey go when he's only half way through his Contract

I'm willing to bet that Macey wont go to Luton... like you, I agree that Jones has an eye for a decent player.

I thought Macey was rather average, but then a lot of our team were that season. He's clearly doing alright for himself at Hibs, so it seems strange that he'd up and leave unless the money is sufficiently better.

Hibs signed Scottish International keeper David Marshall recently as No.1.
Maybe he is a decent keeper now but he was young, inexperienced and nervous at Argyle and made mistakes - fair enough. Our defence was poor, nervous and made mistakes so it was a circular problem. Letheren was half as talented but twice as experienced and four times more confident. He talked to the defence and they were less nervous and made less mistakes.
Not Macey's fault so I wish him well now.
We had a poor keeper, poor defence and a **** poor man motivator as manager. I put the onus on the last of those three!
