There's probably a mixture of suits vs tracksuit managers. Then there's managers like Schuey and Lowe, who go for the smart casual look.

Then there's Ainsworth, who dresses like he's in a dad rock band. It certainly adds to his character, but there's got to be a reason why a manager who has done such a good job at a small club is still with that club after 10 years. Especially considering the turnover of managers in the EFL.

Anyone displaying even a modicum of ability is generally poached pretty sharpish - Ryan Lowe has already moved on twice in his short managerial career, Rob Edwards left Forest Green for Watford after a single season, Ian Evatt was poached by Bolton after two seasons at Barrow. There are loads of similar examples.

Yet Ainsworth is still at Wycombe after a decade. Maybe it's his style of football but I doubt it. Football is a results business and he gets them.
He dresses like he's in a dad rock band because he IS in a dad rock band. Well, a rock band at least. Music has always been a huge part of his life and if that is the way he wants to look and dress then that's fine. It's not my taste at all and I think he looks a bit of a dick but I also admire him greatly for having the confidence to be true to himself.

Similarly, whilst some people cite that he lacks ambition for sticking around at Wycombe for so long as if that is some kind of character flaw I think it's a character strength. It's clear that he has his life sorted, knows what he wants from it and doesn't really care about what anyone else thinks. Again, I admire him for this as it is not something you see that often.

My understanding is he is saying the club are awful but it's nothing to do with Ainsworth who should manage at a higher level.
Okay.. I didn't see it that way. I thought our nan was saying that if Ainsworth goes, this group of players will not be so successful and may struggle to be competitive. He clearly has high motivational skills and gets 100% buy in to his ideas.

He's also a football manager. And clearly the way he looks has impacted that career - as he himself has admitted.

I agree with you that he looks like a dick on the sideline, but also completely agree that he deserves kudos for having the balls to not give a monkeys what anyone else thinks of him.

As for him lacking ambition, he has applied for big jobs but has been overlooked.

Ainsworth himself talking about how his appearance has held him back in his managerial career:
Held him back?
Sorry where were Sunderland when he has his long hair, unusual look whilst managing Wycombe?
For that, where were Sunderland last season whilst Wycombe were plying their trade in the Championship?
You seem rather rather hung up on the guy, smacks of jealousy me thinks!
Who cares what he looks like when he can guide a small club to bigger things?
Do you really think after settling down at Wycombe for ten years that he really cares what you or anyone thinks of his looks?
I'm pretty sure he couldn't care less and is happily doing his job and will continue there for quite some time.

Hung up on the guy? Lol. I made a comment about his appearance holding him back in football, which he himself has admitted is true.

I couldn't really care less about him or his career and will stop commenting before I stir up more reactionary posters like yourself.

I'm entitled to an opinion and you did keep going on about it and then when searching for something to justify your comments, that's a sign of being hung up.
Yeah I am reactionary but better than being one of the followers on here ;)

So the problem is with the club and nothing to do with Ainsworth who should 'move to bigger things'. What a strange post!
Where did I say I did have a problem with Ainsworth? I don’t like his brand of football but there’s no arguing that it is effective. I don’t think he helps their imagine however.

I can't stand Wycombe and their anti-football. I'm not looking forward to having to watch it yet again next season, and would love to see them and their style of play fail and result in relegation. The contrast though is that whenever I read or see an interview with Ainsworth he comes across well, is complimentary about Argyle and, as others have said, he's a character and I can't help liking him. I couldn't give a toss about his hair to be honest.

I think this ”anti -football “ label is not so justified as it once was based on what I saw this season. I believe their reputation goes before them.
And it's the current manager that created that reputation. Back in the day they were managed by Martin O'Neil amongst others.

That’s right. I’m not the only one who thinks Wycombe are a pointless, odious little club. The sooner they drop back into L2 (or even better, non-league) the better.

Yeah let's have a non league team with hoof ball tactics come up, great idea.
You all "hate" Wycombe because they are simply better than us
