So the problem is with the club and nothing to do with Ainsworth who should 'move to bigger things'. What a strange post!
I thought I saw quite clearly what Fergy was saying. But I don't understand, at all, what point you are striving to make or what is strange about his notion. I would be sincerely grateful if you could clarify.

Who would have him? The bloke looks a right state, I'd be embarrassed to have him on the touchline representing our club. Not to mention his 1980s style of football and love of the dark arts.

He's been at Wycombe for 10 years despite doing the kind of job that would normally see you poached by a bigger fish.

There's a couple of very good reason why he hasn't been.
Oh my god talk thatā€™s a bit disrespectfulā€¦.he said you looked very niceā€¦.a little old and wrinkled but you look Ok.

My understanding is he is saying the club are awful but it's nothing to do with Ainsworth who should manage at a higher level.

We aren't talking about me, are we? What a strange post.

Need I remind you that one of the reasons Paul Sturrock was sacked by Southampton was because they thought he was 'scruffy'.

Whether you like it or not, appearance matters.

There are many a manager in The Premiership / Championship who are never seen in a tie and jacket. How long has it been de riguer?

Say what you like he is a very good manager. He certainly got the better of us and his appearance is irrelevant .

Total twaddle, if you can do a job and do it well you'll keep your job, it's as simple as that.
There is no dress code that a manager must adhere to in football, if people want to dress in primark that's fine as long as they do a job.

There's probably a mixture of suits vs tracksuit managers. Then there's managers like Schuey and Lowe, who go for the smart casual look.

Then there's Ainsworth, who dresses like he's in a dad rock band. It certainly adds to his character, but there's got to be a reason why a manager who has done such a good job at a small club is still with that club after 10 years. Especially considering the turnover of managers in the EFL.

Anyone displaying even a modicum of ability is generally poached pretty sharpish - Ryan Lowe has already moved on twice in his short managerial career, Rob Edwards left Forest Green for Watford after a single season, Ian Evatt was poached by Bolton after two seasons at Barrow. There are loads of similar examples.

Yet Ainsworth is still at Wycombe after a decade. Maybe it's his style of football but I doubt it. Football is a results business and he gets them.

And by the way, Sturrock was called "Worzel" by the Southampton players because of the way he looked.

Anyone who says appearance doesn't matter is extremely naive.

I actually quite like Ainsworth. He has a bit of character about him and he comes across as a decent bloke in the interviews I've seen of him. Football fans mix what they see happen on a football pitch with what a person is really like. Similar was posted about Roy Keane on another thread calling him a knob head. Winners sometimes come across as knob heads when they're winning against you.

Ainsworth himself talking about how his appearance has held him back in his managerial career:

Ainsworth has been interviewed for jobs at bigger clubs ā€“ Sunderland being an example ā€“ but he has not been taken seriously by many who still see his long hair before his managerial acumen. ā€œSo many people in football have said to me: ā€˜Cut your hair. Youā€™d look smarter and get a big job.ā€™ Iā€™m thinking: ā€˜But thatā€™s not me.ā€™ Iā€™m going to do it my way. It takes time and patience. But more fool them if they still think: ā€˜Thereā€™s that long-haired dude on the touchline.ā€™ā€
