I'm saying I don't seem to have needed a big screen at Home Park in 30 years of going for me to want to go back.
I said I'd been to 100 stadiums if you re-read...not sure how many screens that equates to.
Blare was used as a descriptor in my post for being overly 'loud' in terms of brightness rather than sound.... perhaps it didn't work. I will say that the Chelsea one was irritatingly loud during half time, jamming advertisements into ears.
I associate the need to be 'additionally entertained' with bright flashing imagery with American sports.
I'm sorry if my opinion on big screens at football has upset you. I'm not asking other people to stop enjoying them as part of their 'matchday experience'...all I'm saying is that, in my personal opinion, they are tacky, superfluous and do not enhance my enjoyment of football, because the football is enough for me personally.
I put them in the same bracket as electric moving adverts on the sidelines.
"Hey you, you've come to the football to support your team but you will never escape being a consumer, NEVER! HEY, YOU, LOOK AT ME NOT YOUR CENTRAL MIDFIELDER PLAYING A PINPOINT PASS" Stop selling me poo, this is my 2 hours of escapism from life insurance products, tyres and being told which country to visit next.

The Herald proclaims:
The screen will add an extra layer of excitement to matchdays

When did football become so dull that a TV is required to add excitement?

l think your right.

Those in the Devonport / Mayflower corner l think for starters are going to have difficulties seeing a screen that’s in the opposite corner.

I doubt it was viable, but l wondered if it was possible to have two smaller screens above the goals, attached to the stand.
It's mentioned in the blurb on the baggo - roof not suitable.

Team sheets / substitutions / players who've got carded / minutes left / slow motion replays / scores from other games.

These are things I'd personally like to check/see by glancing to a big screen. For me its a good move and long overdue.

I completely understand why the club might want to put a big screen into the ground, primarily, I'd assume, as a way to make money from advertising but also perhaps to showcase some of the Argyle TV offer. It makes sense from that perspective and I'm supportive of the club trying to find ways to generate revenue to build the club infrastructure and playing squad.

What I don't understand is why so many fans are keen on the idea of having a big screen in the ground. I can't really see what the attraction is. Most people seem to be generally anti having advertising thrust in their faces (e.g. look at the constant grumbling about adverts on PASOTI) and I really can't see how having anything on the screen during play, other than the scoreline and time, could be anything other than distracting. That just leaves the time before games, at half time and after the game when showing Argyle TV footage might work but then do people REALLY want to go to Argyle and watch a big TV in a corner of the ground. You can always watch TV/screens at home or on your phone. Surely people want to take in the match atmosphere, talk to mates about the game etc.

Personally, I understand why having a big screen could be an attractive proposition for the club but I don't understand why it's attractive to fans. I don't feel any personal need to have a screen in the ground and think it's nice to get away from screens and immerse myself in the real match experience when I go to games. So I get why the club is doing this but I'm not in favour of it myself.

Just for starters - We could show big moments in our history, Mauges winner at Wembley, Friios 2nd against QPR, Reuben Reid’s hat-trick against Excreta, Hartleys goal against Portsmouth in the playoffs, highlights of our 84 FA cup run..

Also the possibility of screening Argyles away matches at Home Park.

oh and it brings in money to the club which will make us more competitive on the playing side.

So how long before KO are you expecting people to be in their seats so they can be shown that.
If the Club want more people to watch the Big Screen for a substantial time doesn’t that mean less people will be in the concourses buying food and drink so thereby losing Argyle income.
Or will the screen be used to build the pre match atmosphere instead of just music?

Thought you could buy a pasty and a cuppa and take it to your seat?

I think you may be overthinking it.

I haven't read all the contributions to this thread, so I apologise if I'm being repetitive, or too negative.

However, I have to say, IMHO, that this Screen is a total waste of money and that the further reduction in capacity is very unwelcome.

If we have to accommodate it, the currently undeveloped corners are much better locations.

The bit you have missed is where the club state that they have investigated where it should go and have stated the reasons why they opted not to use the undeveloped corners.

As for the very slight reduction in capacity. Argyle's highest attendance this season was just over 16,000. Multiply that by 23 and minus the total numbers who entered Home Park over the season and you are left with 68,000 unsold seats in 2021-22. A few seats being removed is not going to dent that figure very much.

Reading through the thread a lot of comments about the loss of seats and the ground not big enough, this season there has been just 6 sell out crowds.
This season Home Park has had just under 300,000 supporters go through the turnstiles. Taking into account if 150 seats are lost through the screen Argyle would lose 900 supporters @£23 per match equates to £20,700 in revenue for the 900 seats lost.
I'm not sure how much it costs to advertise at Home Park but I am sure the club would make a lot more than the income revenue from lost seats which at the same time can be reinvested the club ie. team building, increasing the capacity

I'm sure Simon Hallett and the board are well aware of potential losses through loss of seats and more importantly income through advertising. All the pros and cons would have been looked into. Unless I'm missing something from peoples comments who may know more than Hallett and the board.
