One thing to contemplate is why he ended up with us and the fact that he is now a much loved although not technically brilliant player. Some teams and players merge with a playing style that appears to have been a match made in heaven. We had GC10 for some glorious seasons and indeed he was the most entertaining player for many a year with a goal tally to match, not so much in numbers but in sheer world class quality, fast forward to Bulgaria and it is 11 in three years, go back to pre-Argyle and on stats alone he didn`t look an outstanding acquisition. The thing with GC10 was that he found his footballing home and maybe Camara falls into that category. I think Camara would be a risk for a higher league team and could end up as a bench warmer. Bottom line is if he goes he goes, we survived GC10.

We didn't really need GC10, to get out of L2. Camara will be much harder to replace.

The ideal scenario for us in my view (apart from him signing a new contract and staying HP) would be to sell him to a bottom to middle Championship side (eg Preston/Bristol City) with a 50% sell on fee and promotion payment of say £2M, even if that meant we only got 100k for him upfront. He then goes to said club, is one of their better players leading to either promotion to the Prem or a big money love to a top Championship club for £5M.

I agree, at the very least we need a decent sell-on clause in case he absolutely flies. There aren't many like him around. Will be virtually impossible to replace like for like, that's for sure.

Indeed, how this relevant though?

My point is Camara is harder to replace than Carey, especially as were in L2 when GC left.
You say that, we havent replaced Carey and are unlikely to have such a talented, technical and hard working player as him at this level.
There are plenty of reasonable midfielders with decent engines around, hopefully we find one with an end product.
So I think Camara will be wayyyyyy easier to replace than the mercurial Carey.

You could move Edwards into Camara’s position. He has his engine and he gets in the box well.

Solves the engine problem. Although we need another to go alongside him or at least give him competition.

Would mean we need a new RWB but then we need more creativity on the flanks anyhow.

My concern would be that up to the age of almost 30 Edwards was a mediicre lower league footballer who Walsall were happy to let go. He found his niche with Argyle and capped it with a superb last season. I'm not convinced he could replicate it playing more centrally.

He is more energetic than Mayor, Houghton, Randell imo. He certainly presses better than those 3.

He had a great second half of the season. But we still lacked a service to the forwards because his strength was running on the counter and coming inside to link up play.

We didn't need Carey to get out of L2. It would have been great if he stayed but we got back up without him.

Carey was fantastic but these day's there are a lot more very good attacking midfielders around. You don't see players like Pan very often. He's got an engine like Kante and stops the rest of our team being bullied as he takes the brunt of attention. Absolutely vital for our system.

Who's winning the headers and physical 50/50's in a midfield 3 of Houghton/Randell, Mayor and Edwards?

It would be a stop gap and we would be no where near the play offs that's for sure.
