Sam Winnall - Striker - Released by Oxford

I'm surprised Pogles has not said we should make a tentative bid for Camps

Cadden would be a good answer to MGM's point in another thread about our inability to put regular quality balls into the box - he's great at that. And IIRC he can play on either flank. More of an attacking midfielder than a wing-back - replacement for G Cooper?

Having spent some time on the Oxford site in the final months Winnall was universally derided as being ineffective.....

I think we will have better options than him available.

Callum Morton is a good shout....as are the FGR wing backs although I am sure they will be offered deal as a consequence of promotion.

Our ambition last season was to improve on the previous season. We had a budget about 7th from bottom, and we succeeded very successfully.

We did not expect to be anywhere near the play-offs, but you make it seem as if the play-offs were the target from the start of the season.

They weren't.

If Cooper goes then we will struggle to match last season, he saved us a lot of points with his goalkeeping which will not be replicated next season, if he goes.
I don't agree with this. Cooper did win us a lot of points last season with excellent saves. His composure on the ball and distribution probably indirectly assisted a few goals as well. But picking up a decent, experienced 30 something year old keeper who could achieve similar would be fairly straight forward with £5 million burning a hole in your pocket. With the added bonus that they may be able to control the back 3 better as well. I'd like Cooper to stay, seems a really down to earth and talented lad but the fear of not being able to replace him should not be the reason not to sell.

It won't be the reason not to sell.

If the financial offer appeals to the manager and directors, then he will go.

Cooper saved us several points last season with his saves, and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to find an equally skilled replacement. Your assertion that a 30 something could replace him seems a little naive.

He is still young and for Cooper to go, he would have to have a reasonable chance of gaining a first team place at a higher division club, otherwise the advance in his career path will be interrupted, and, although it would mean he would be turning down financial incentives to move, he would be better off staying until the right move came along for him career-wise. He has many years ahead of him and he has to choose carefully what moves he can now make in order to further his career later on.

I do agree that finding a more than adequate keeper would be the least of our worries should that enable us to strengthen a couple of other positions and that's not overlooking the contribution Cooper made.
He made rapid strides in his second season and I agree his next move will be an important one for him. I would have thought that playing 40 games in the Championship for a West Brom, Blackburn type club with aims to be challenging or even a relegated Everton would serve his development better than as a bench warmer for a Leicester or Wolves.

I'd take palmer from WBA in a heart beat more than competent to replace coops
