The question is if RL picks Rands will he be overwhelmed by the occasion- RL would not want to throw him in at the deep end bearing in mind he has had limited opportunities since the season began

I think RL will go with positional changes within the squad as he has the luxury of having players that can play a variety of positions

Haven’t seen the cup games but Randell looked good pre season and when he got a longer run off the bench v Cambridge in the league.

He’s also done well in the youth team, the reserve team and out on loans and I think deserves a chance. It’s only one game, he’ll have 10 others around him and putting someone more experienced into a position they’ve not played this season, potentially disrupting the entire set up, also contains a good deal of risk.

We have to back young players in circumstances like this if we want to be seen as a club that takes youth development seriously.

Big game for both clubs. We don’t really have a like- for- like replacement for Houghton IMO , but Connor Grant may be the most obvious candidate.

Although I wouldn’t be surprised , if Lowe tweaks the formation, for this one.

Agreed on both counts. Tough one this.

If Grant plays the DM role, I think Garrick will play LWB. If Randell starts, I think Camara will play a bit deeper to offer more protection. I don't see Edwards as an option there, as I don't think he has the passing range required.

I don’t think Randell will overwhelmed by the occasion, when he played for Torquay in the play off matches he actually stood out to me as one of the best players on the park in a big game for them.

Think we’ve seen the difference Houghton has brought when comparing to the inexperienced Fornah.
Fornah wasn’t bad, but we’ve seen the difference in having someone very good in there compared to ok. We can’t carry passengers. Either Edwards or Grant with Garrick at wing back for me

Randell. Otherwise why is he in the squad? In pre-season everyone wanted Randell in and around the team. Now people aren’t sure Randell will be up for such a big game.

It’s not his fault that Houghton has been outstanding. If you don’t play him Saturday then I don’t think you ever will. Everyone has been saying he’s got to wait until Houghton is unavailable, so this is his chance.

Does anybody remember Paul cook’s impressive Pompey side dismantle us at home ( lucky to get away with a 2-1 defeat on that day), in 2016?
Midfield will be the battle- ground again, in this one.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lowe shore up defensive midfield with Camara partnering Connor grant, broom moving to LWB ( to link with Mayor) and a re- shuffle up-front to match cook’s 4-5-1 with a 3-6-1 formation.....

3-5-2 will always be Lowe's starting position.

I could see Edwards taking over from Houghton with Garrick RWB. Lowe has played both in those positions previously.

Some strange suggestions in here. Gillesphey and Galloway at CDM? I'd plump for Grant or Edwards personally. Probably Edwards.

I think for a big game like this it has to be someone with the most experience and for me that is Joe Edwards With Garrick filling in at RWB. I trust Lowe to make the right call however.
