As good as he is £3 million with big add ons based on inprovements and future transfers and id sell we need to build a team and we coukd get a replqcment keeper who could do a job easily
Understand what your saying- but £3 million would be a small fee, for a potential premier league player.

Would be good if we could agree a new contract by alliwing michael a very favourable % of the future transfer fee - and then potential loans to championship and premiership clubs as a contracted Argyle player.

A novel idea- but that could work for both Michael Cooper and Argyle …… it would allow Michael’s continued professional development , whilst facilitating a higher transfer fee ( as a player with championship and premiership experience) which would be in everyone’s interests ….. win/ win for all parties…..

We have just built a team and you don’t progress by the selling one of your best players when his value will increase as he becomes more experienced and, hopefully, more successful in a winning team.
We have had 4 10,000+ gates in our first 4 league games and we must be starting to reap the benefits of our Grandstand redevelopment with income from our conference facilities etc.
Now is not the time to sell our most valuable assets.

Coops seems a very level headed young man & is extremely focused on learning & developing his game.
He is our number 1 keeper & he will push himself so that he stays in that position
He will not be interested in media articles written about him- he will stay focused on the job in hand & look at how he can improve himself whilst under our tutelage
We are not a basket case of a club that has to sell the family silver just to make ends meet
If & when he chooses to move on it will because it is right for both parties

What young English goalkeepers are better then? Not many spring to mind.

I’m confident Cooper will play in the top division, and he will likely make the club a lot of money in the process.

If he gets the U21 call up he deserves, his value will rocket.

The 3 current U21 keepers are Josh Griffiths, Etienne Green and Josef Bursik. Griffiths is on loan with Lincoln having played a full season for Cheltenham in league 2 last season. Bursik has 23 appearances to date for Stoke but not for a few years and Green 15 for St Etienne this calendar year who are bottom of the French top tier currently. Cooper with his 50 plus league appearances in league 1 should therefore be very much under consideration for the U21s.
I am sure he would be if he was eligible. The 3 keepers mentioned, and every other member of the current U21 squad were born in 2000 or later. Mike Cooper was born in 1999.

One thing to point out is that Keepers are probably one of, if not the most replaceable position in the team. If we do decide to sell him if we get a decent bid that is.

It would have to be 3mil + for me, plus a loan back to us for a season to continue his development.

His dob is 8th October 1999 so he is not 22 until 8th October this calendar year.

I cannot see Cooper leaving for the foreseeable.

He is only 21 years of age, he has plenty of time to gain further experience at first team level.

I cannot see him moving to be a possible third or fourth choice goalkeeper with a Premiership Club after first team action with Argyle.

The Argyle staff will ensure that he gets sufficient remuneration for his talent and he relishes first team action, which will give him more benefit than playing understudy somewhere else.

Argyle's vision is to get to the Championship and to stay there.

I am sure that Michael would want to be part of that journey, and would not be looking to move until he has outgrown us.

The only reason he would move would be to become a first choice keeper, or at least initially be a back-up with the possibility of first choice when his time comes at a bigger club.

Until then lets enjoy him. You can be sure that Argyle will ensure he goes when it is best for him, and for Argyle, and not before.

He's going nowhere for a few years at least..

If Cooper is still at Argyle in four years time, it will mean he hasn’t turned out to be as good as some think he is.

If Cooper is as good as some of you think, forget PL there will be Championship clubs sniffing around in January. That’s a more likely scenario. 2m max and Argyle would take it.

Argyle have allegedly already turned down those kind of bids.
Perhaps Lowe and Hallett don’t understand they are mere fodder for any bigger club going like you obviously do.
If you look at Lowe’s interviews, you can see he is ambitious. He stresses it enough himself.
He has gone to the trouble of getting Dewsnip, all the data analytics, bringing down the likes of Niall Ennis and Panutche Camara.
Selling young players with big potential for small amounts isn’t at all what this set up is about.
Adams pocketed £400,000 for Purrington, never got to reinvest it, ended up getting sacked. I don’t think Lowe is after a quick profit, and I don’t think Hallett is pressuring him to do anything except improve the club.
Lowe knows what Cooper’s potential is and what it’s worth to clubs with money, and it isn’t £2m.
If that was the case, Cooper and Jephcott would already be gone by now.

Do you really think it is anything to do with Ryan Lowe, whether and for how much, Cooper is sold? Really?
I await details of actual £2m bids previously made for Cooper AND Jephcott. Not just newpaper rumour.

You will have a long wait under the current regime Greenowl, nothing seems to leak until a deal is done and dusted.
At least you won't have to worry about the overrated Cooper ending up playing in a decaying stadium for a club chasing former glories anytime soon.
