Hardie goal (vs Wimbledon)

I have never liked the idea of strikers getting scoring bonuses. It’s a team game and a striker doesn’t necessarily have to score to have a good performance (Mickey Evans hardly scored and he was excellent). I suspect that goal bonuses can encourage shooting from inappropriate positions and cause animosity between team mates.

Much better for the whole team to get a win bonus instead.

Same here Ron, I’ve watched it a bunch of times too. Something compelling about this particular goal. Feels like a Prem league type, that someone such as Salah would score. The time he took to dummy the defenders and calmly slot in, shows he’s got that ability to think clearly under pressure, which separates the great from the good In sport.

Interesting too, in his post match interview, he said he wasn’t aware of Luke, even though he was right next to him. He’s got that strikers single minded focus, technical skill and that clarity of thought in the moment. All the ingredients a top forward needs to succeed. Add in that he’s now getting more consistent service - as long as he stays injury free, anything is possible!

I know we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves but with this, the strength of the defence and some quality players still to return, it’s all looking pretty exciting right now
Interesting that Hardie did not notice Jephcott, perhaps that's why on Saturday he chose to try to flick the ball past the keeper and not give it to jeffers, who was in a better position to score.

Unsurprising to see some actually discrediting our star striker. PASOTI strikes again. Great finish and illustrative of a player full of confidence.

Not sure if I am one of the posters you are referring to, but I defended Hardie all of last season when plenty found the time to criticise and question his ability in front of goal.
Now he is scoring goals he is back to being our 'star striker'. That is the fickleness of football fans in a nutshell.
Hopefully we all stay as positive and supportive if he goes back to his scoring ratios of season. And also supportive of Jephcott if he struggles to get going.

I think they were probably right, he just didn't express them quite clearly. I suspect it's 19 goals in 46 starts and 27 sub appearances. Hardie was something of a supersub in his first season.

Yep that's what I meant and I did mention total games.

I've recently learnt that even if a full stop is in the wrong place the usual 3 or 4 posters will pick up on it.

Remember that a misplaced punctuation mark can make the difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you’re sh!t. 😀

I’ve always liked Hardie but have often felt his finishing has let him down, that seems to have really changed this season, he looks a lot sharper.
His finishing didn’t let him down in his loan spell in 2019/20. 7 goals in 13 games, 5 in 8 as a sub and 2 in 5 as a starter.
Last season, he just didn’t get the service that he thrives on and he spent too much time chasing lost causes.
This season, with a stronger defence and midfield he is thriving again.
Long may it continue and, hopefully, Luke Jephcott can join the fun.

Hardie scored, had he missed I can understand the debate. Factor in also that the keeper and defender probably did see Jeffers and were half-minded on what to do if Hardie passed. So Hardie didn't pass and scored, Jeffers ran off the ball and distracted the keeper and defender, helping Hardie to score, team goal!! 👏

Look at the one against Wednesday.
Last season I believe that every single time he squares that to his mate for a goal and is the first one to congratulate him.
Not sure what has changed that Hardie is now taking on shots him that are riskier than routine square balls and routine tap ins.
Every manager wants to encourage confidence in their number 9, but also when a chance is as glaring as that you have to square it for a certain goal.
I only brought it up because it struck me as odd at the time. Jephcott and Hardie are very good friends off the pitch, room together for away games etc., so for Hardie not to tee his good mate up for a tap in seemed out of character.
