I’d be stunned if Lowe was genuinely happy with the current squad. Not that they are bad players, just that we haven’t got many!

Definitely need another ST, another RWB, and another CM at minimum.

I think most of us would concur that we'll be significantly stronger at the back this season, at least it looks that way on paper. However, only five teams scored fewer goals than us last season and we haven't yet strengthened at all in that department.

There is no way we're ready to start the season with what we currently have. No way. I hope and suspect RL is just bluffing and sending a message to agents that he won't be held to ransom.

Given the financial support from the fans and the £2 million insurance pay out it will be disappointing to start the season with a squad low in numbers but I don't believe we will. Lowe still has the loan market to use and in each of the two summers as Argyle manager he's made 4 loan signings before the transfer window closed, so I would expect similar this summer (although loans may arrive after the season has started) plus another two permanent signings.

Lowe said in the fans forum that we were looking at a couple of attacking players but that they got snapped up before we could make an offer.

Is hoping to get a ‘seasoned’ player in on loan in next couple of weeks.

So if you thought two or three more players l don’t think that is happening.

From Posty's commentary on the fans forum, Lowe said one or two. So two is possible. I would suggest anymore would be contingent on injuries, particularly how George Cooper recovers from his. ACL's are notorious for players picking up muscle injuries during their return to action. If we get 10 games out of GC prior to Christmas, it would be a good result in my opinion.

Personally, I'd like to see another midfield option and a forward, but anymore than that and I think the squad is getting too big. Randall / Houghton can compete for the deep role, with Mayor at LCM and Grant or Camara at RCM. However if Grant moves to LWB, that leaves us a bit thin. Particularly as prior to last season Grant was fairly injury prone, and Randell has never kicked a ball in League One before.

We don't just need another RCM as cover, I think we need one to start there. Camara is a fantastic athlete and so good at breaking up play, but he's next to useless in and around the area. With Mayor also goal-shy on the other side of midfield we need someone who can chip in with goals and assists on that right side.

Our midfield last season was almost certainly among the lowest in the league for goals scored and it's something we need to address urgently.

I know goalscoring midfielders don't grow on trees, but if we can't find a Friio or Castle then hopefully we can at least bring in a Mauge or Norris.

So what do we need?
If you look at the squad there's 15 outfield players currently fit enough to start the season and that includes Tomlinson but not Shirley.

I think we need a left wing-back who has good experience of playing that position.
Grant is not a dedicated LWB, Law is facing his first full season at Argyle and Cooper isn't fit.

We need another creative midfielder, we rely too much on Mayor and if he's out of form or injured we'll struggle. This could be a loan until January by which time our other creative player, Cooper, should be back.

I think we need another striker and something different to what we have, again another loan.

So I reckon 3 more players needed, a LWB, a creative midfielder and a striker.

Traditionally Lowe starts the season with at least 3 loan players and adds another 2 before the transfer window closes. This summer he's not shopping in the Premier League loan market so probably just two loans from the Championship and League One.

With Law, Grant, and Galloway, and Cooper to return, I would be very surprised if we signed another LWB. Otherwise I agree, although I'm not sure Lowe is in the market for a CM.

You say that, but when Pan came on the other night he picked out some excellent passes in the final third. Jephcott missed a 1-on-1 and Ennis missed a chance too. On another day he would've had two assists. I was critical of his end product last year, but decision making is something that improves with experience and I think he's got the potential to put up decent numbers. For me he should be first choice at RCM when the season starts. His positives far outweigh the negatives.

That's true, but I'll throw in a golden opportunity he had at Rovers when he was inside the area and had three Argyle players to pick out but cut it back straight to a Rovers defender. He does that a lot (mind you, so does DM).

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Pan fan but our end product from midfield needs to be much better if we're going to challenge the top ten.

We, actually, scored a goal from a right wing cross (it bobbled) against Swansea and also Edwards created a great opportunity for Ennis.
I still think that this is the area we need to strengthen as we have decent left footed crossers but few who can deliver dangerous crosses from the right wing.

It doesn't come naturally to any of them though does it (with the possible of exception of Galloway who I haven't seen much of)? They look like players used to playing another position crowbarred into the role, which is what they are.

There were a lot of good wing backs at the euros (Shaw, Maehle, Gosens, Spinazzola) who had the huge range of defensive and attacking attributes required to play there. I wonder whether it's a bit much to expect this of a League 1 player.

I think we could use 4 new signings - a full back and a winger to give us different tactical options, a central midfielder to screen the defence in the way Josh Grant did in our promotion season and a big striker who can hold the ball up.

Personally I think we need an attacking midfielder (someone not dissimilar to Mayor), but who is able to play in the centre or on the right; and also a further option upfront, someone with a bit of height.

For me, LWB position looks ok as it is - we have a number of left sided players who can play there - or adapt at a push.
