Thanks for that Stiffler. I am also informed by GOS, that he played in all 5 forward positions, with NOS. 7 ,8 and 9 most common in what was most likely the old W formation.

It was a long time ago but it was still after the W formation had become old hat. Brazil showed the world 4-4-2 in 1958 and Argyle were early exponents of it. The 1960-61 away Norwich programme made special mention of the fact that we were one of the first teams to use it. That was under Neil Dougall and George Taylor who were joint managers from March 1960 to March 1961. That is how each of Derek's managers generally set up -Billy Bingham. Ellis Stuttard and Tony Waiters. Occasionally they would switch to 4-3-3 but not often.
