The Merchant Navy is finally to be recognised on the Hoe with the other memorials that stand proud overlooking the Sound.

The Plymouth branch of the NI as well as other organisations and supporters have asssisted to raise half of the costs required. The team have now set up a crowd fund to assist with the remaining amount.

The Herald ran an article on Tuesday this week on the project.

There are thousands of present MN officers from our city, many who are listening and watching (thanks to I player) every match from all over the world whilst keeping the world trading.

Please do have a watch of the attached video, and any contributions would be greatly appreciated. The monument is planned to be unveiled as part of the 2020 celebrations.

Many Thanks

Safe sailing!

Having spent 25 years in the Merchant Navy and now been ashore for 5, this is long overdue.

It’s a big shock to the system Richard, even having a weekend or a bank holiday off is still a novelty. I think I’d probably have gone back to sea if I hadn’t have settled down after leaving.

Received by the Plymouth Merchant Navy Monument Fund today:

Basically, we have extended the campaign for a further 2 weeks.
The reasons for this change is specific.
At the beginning of the campaign we registered a wish for us to be considered for extra funding by a couple of entities.
Because we have achieved 25% of our target of £31,000, Plymouth City Council have considered us for such extra funding.
On this basis they are looking to pledge a conditional 50% of our target as extra funding.
This means that providing we achieve 50% of our target ourselves (ie £15,500) then their pledge will stand, and we will achieve our £31,000 target.
Thus we have to get a further minimum of £3,800 pledged to achieve this.
As it is unlikely we would achieve this by Monday 4th at 9.30 pm, CrowdfunderUK have extended the campaign to run for an extra two weeks, so as to finish at 9.30 pm on Monday 18th December.

Target met, thanks to those who donated, or had a look at least.

Look forward to the unveiling on the Hoe in 2020
