I think this is all rather pathetic, but reflects more on the organisers than on the people standing. The notice period was clearly insufficient, and in general communication with the fan base about this is incredibly weak. Blame the process and the people behind it, not the people standing.

I would rather we start again from scratch and let new candidates put themselves forward; because of the god awfulway it has been handled alot of people did not (and still do not) know of the existance of the PASB board. A clean start could rescue the process.

A restart with it moving to selection against competence as opposed to an election necessitating popular rhetoric appeals to me.

Trouble is Jon, thats a minefield in its own right. Can you imagine the discussion over what constitutes "competence"? Who would decide who was worthy enough and in turn who would the selected be accountable to?

To a certain extent you have selection already, in the 6 positions from supporters groups. I believe you are a Trust member, have you approached them to be one of their 3?

For all its imperfections, elections give people the chance to commit to an ideal, have their commitment scrutinised and be accountable. Because one element has not been as successful as hoped on thiis occasion does not nullify the whole process in my view.

With the ballot papers going out this Friday, its a bit late in the day to change the system. But good luck to all the candidatees brave enough to put their names forward.

I and others said weeks ago the best option was to allow the nine independent candidates, along with the reps from the supporters groups, to form the PASB with no election, get it up and running and have an election towards the end of the season.

As things (still) stand the formation of the PASB is more important than any election, for now.

The fans and Membership holders are missing out on so many issues that could have been raised at statutory board level by the PASB.

Could the election be postponed for six months and get the PASB formed ASAP?

I would guess that the Trust are waiting for the result of the individual election before naming their 3 for the supporters' groups seats.

Probably but they could have just asked three of those standing to be their reps and let the PASB get on with it

Excellent idea but I get the impression that the Trust is trying to monopolise the PASB.

Not a good scenario IMHO, and I say that as a Trust member.

Davd, I have found in life that guessing is no substitute for knowing with certainty.

Im sure it isnt, but it gives the impression of "second best"

The wider point is, we know when the election results are to be announced, will the supporters club nominations be announced at a similar time? I believe at the ltest it should be the same time to enable a first meeting to be called.

Posty.

What you propose is what David Wheeler envisaged back in March. It was to enable a constitution to be written and te PASB to function with elections October 2012.

Sound familiar?

But we are where we are, with the ballots going out on Friday, sent by a contracted (?) ERS.

Tony - Guessing is all we can do because of the lack of any definite information.

As far as I'm aware no-one from the organising side has been in touch with us at Plymouth Branch to ascertain who will be our nomination.

And as far as I'm aware we've been given no indication of who to notify and by when this should be done.

David

I can sense your frustration which to a greater or less extent is shared by many of the candidates over this and other issues.

I think I may have been inclined to write to Martin Baker and ask him for some clarity. He is, after all, the CEO acting or not and should be able to give answers to such straight forward questions.

Seconded.

And further to my selection vs election proposal, I see the PASB as more of a voluntary, unpaid job than an elected position.

The latter is very much the territory of the Trust & the I see the PASB as effectively helping to provide one of the aspirational functions of the Trust, not competing with it to be the public face of the voice of the fans.

To (possibly) help, I have previously offered to manage the set up of the PASB & to Chair it in its formative period.

My offers still stand should they be of use to the club.

Jon

It is one thing to say you dont believe in democracy for the PASB.

It is quite another to suggest you are the right person to lead what will (unless you make it unconstitutional) a democratic organisation.

I'm speechless..............................................
