Dad's going to get me a mac for university soon, and I need to know which one would be better.

When starting Marjons, I get a free laptop anyway, but I would like to know what is generally better between these two.

One is portable. One is not.

Free laptops at uni? All I got when I moved into my halls of residence was a used condom under the matress.

Depends what course you're doing and what you want to get from the machine. iMac's are more powerful, but MacBooks are portable.

For example, if it was a 'creative' degree, graphic design, photography etc . Then an iMac would be better, bigger screen, bigger canvas. Whereas if it's a degree that involves a lot of writing then an a MacBook is fine.

I work in Stormfront Apple centre in Drake Circus, if you want me to take you through the different range then just pop in mate :-)

iMac is ‘better’ in terms of raw power. I have the high end 27 inch model and its by far the best computer I have ever owned.

I'd certainly recommend it. That said, the current iMac is over a year old and is due an update at any moment to the new Intel Ivy Bridge CPU and Nvidia graphics.

I would go for the latest 15" MacBook Pro. It has a stunning retina screen, Intel i7 processor and flash drive storage. It is the best out there.
