I can only echo the sentiments of others. As a young man I was in absolute awe of Ernie - he stood out as a player of sheer class. Condolences to his friends and family - he gave a great deal of pleasure to many. RIP

So sad to hear this news, Ernie was a great player for Argyle R.I.P

One of the greats, no doubt about it. And to think that he probably played a third of his games for us when he was not truly fit, struggling with a chronic groin injury. Yet he still ran the game.

Total class act. He hardly ever gave the ball away and was an exquisite passer. I remember we all idolised him.

I never post on these type of sentimental threads, but feel that Ernie was special.

This man gave his all for the Club whilst he was at his peak, and by golly he deserves all the praise that he gets. I've never seen anyone boss our midfield any better, or so thoroughly, since those days. A true professional indeed.

He came back for a lap around Home Park during our Centenary celebrations, and I was shocked how crippled he had become. I hope football didn't do this to him. He didn't deserve it.

Thanks for what you did Ernie, our memories will not be dimmed just because you are no longer with us.

I am in shock - Ernie was one of my favourite players to wear the Argyle shirt, such a class player, made such a difference to the team. In that wonderful Tony Waiter's team of the early 70's, when I was just a boy. RIP Ernie, very sad loss, condolensces to his Family and Friends.

God bless you Ernie Machin
