Given Argyle's expressed open mindedness to safe standing for the corners of stage 2, Shrewsbury's application for a trial could see them being the guinea pigs for our eventual benefit...

The trial would be crowd funded so perhaps something we might have an interest in helping to happen.

If any sort of logic prevails then we will surely see safe standing in this country in the not too distant. Whether it makes sense financially for Argyle is another matter but it would be good to have some at least.

Shrewsbury ground has not been designated an all seater stadium so they could if they wished take out seats and convert to terracing, which is why they can trial safe standing.
As Home Park has been designated an all seater stadium until the law changes we cant install or convert any areas to safe standing.

Exactly, we currently cannot do this legally.
West Brom are waiting in the wings to test that case but it needs an English guinea pig to strengthen their case. The sooner someone does it the sooner we can all potentially do it.

Northampton Town are also now intending to install safe-standing at Sixfields.

But the Government's stance hasn't changed, it looks like it won't change (especially as Hillsborough is still very much in the news), and for the foreseeable future the Government will have more important issues to deal with. This means that, should Shrewsbury or Northampton get promoted, they'd have to rip out the rail-seating within 3 years. That's a fairly expensive gamble to take.

The difference between standing and safe standing is the fact that individual tickets can be used for safe standing, thereby eliminating any over-spill completely, which seems to be at the crux of the Hillsborough matter.

They wouldn't have to rip it out just unlock the seats and sell them as seating. It actually makes sense to put this in new grounds instead of traditional terracing which the likes of Morecambe and Burton have as it allows you to comply with all seater rules at no extra cost when you have to and you also would benefit from allowing standing after any future change in the Law.

If Argyle are really serious about this issue I don't see why they wouldn't put it in now for standing use at a later date. It does cost more than normal seating I believe and of course they may never be a change in the law in which case you could argue it was a waste of money.
