A bit of fun following this table......but with 0 or 1+1 or 3 pts available for the teams in each game.... this chart can only be a guide.....in fact it doesn't actually workout......an example would be that there isn't any way Newport C could ever come first even at the moment......because each week there are between 24pts & 36pts available for distribution amongst the 24 teams and other teams above Newport C will be accumulating pts whatever Newport C achieve themselves......suppose they win every game....that would be 15x3pts = 45pts add the 25 pts they already have = a total of 70 pts......so even now they wouldn't get into the play-offs.

But as a bit of fun it's worth looking at each week.

Okay, here's my version. Only the top half of the table is shown. Each black # symbol represents a point already gained but only points above 40 are shown (so #### = 44 points, ###### = 46 points). Each light purple # symbol represents a point that could theoretically be gained (i.e. number of remaining games x 3).

The total length of a line of # symbols represents the maximum possible number of points a team can gain so when a team's total line length is shorter than Argyle's line of green # symbols they cannot catch us.

Goal difference is shown after the team names.

################################################################## Doncaster +23
################################################################## Argyle +17
############################################################ Carlisle +11

####################################################### Luton +18
######################################################## Portsmouth +16
#################################################### Exeter +16
################################################# Mansfield +4

################################################ Stevenage +1
################################################### Wycombe 0
############################################### Barnet -2
################################################# Colchester +6
############################################## Grimsby 0

(If anyone spots any errors please let me know - as you might imagine it is pretty easy to make a mistake with this!)

Sorry Doc, nothing personal, but I find Ottawa's table a lot easier to follow (or it could be an age think)

That's fine Martyn, liking my # graphic is optional. It's just intended to be a bit more 'visual' although it doesn't really work on a small mobile screen.

I like the hashtag graphic!

The only thing with it (and the elimination table) is how many weeks we have to wait until teams are finally unable to catch us. Our green hashes are nowhere near the end of any purple hashes in February.

Win for Doncaster and a loss for Newport means Newport cannot be first

I very much doubt whether Newport will worry unduely if they are eliminated from a theoretical chance of finishing top. Their target may well be a few places lower in the table.

Actually, the table will have a lot more relevance in the last month of the season, when mid-placed teams are assured of staying in Div 2, and lose focus. Low ranked teams scrabbling for survival and knowing they have to win become very dangerous, and high placed teams feel really under pressure every game.

I cannot tell a lie, I don't really do maths. These tables are fairly incomprehensible to me

But .. can Newport really win the league with 65 points? Donny already have 65 points so would have to lose all their games? Whilst Newport would win all their games?

Meanwhile all the other teams would have to play out a scenario that none of them (us on 62?) exceeded 65??

Surely that can't happen?

I'll go back to my comprehensions, poetry appreciation and linguistics!! Sorry!
