If, at the end of last season we'd have been told the biggest 'ray of sunshine' as I think someone put it was going to be a 32 year old fireman with no league experience there would have been a riot.

It's not testament to Rhys Griffiths abilities that he's being eagerly looked forward to, it's testament to the dirth of other signings and devastating lack of apparent ambition being shown.

Any other season, any other circumstances and signing Rhys Griffiths would be seen as an eyebrow raising punt at best and WTF? at worst. That it's being clung to with hope tells you all you need to know about the desperation of the summer of 2012.

I think it's testament to the strikers we already have at the club.

Considering i'd prefere a 32 year old non league fireman over what we already have makes my teeth itch.

I liked what I saw at Truro, however I'd like to see him against stronger opposition, maybe this Saturday?

The big question that needs to be asked is not what Rhys can offer Argyle but what can Argyle offer Rhys.

We all know that Firemen are on good pay and that there working pattern is very attractive, plus what he is being paid by Port Talbot can Argyle match this, or are they willing to match it?

On another subject: My girlfriend asked me to kiss her somewhere it smells. I said OK but I have never been to Port Talbot before.

An old Valley joke!

I am sure we can cover £28,000 a year. Not sure what he earns for Port Talbot! Got to be cheaper option than some over rated ,over paid premadonna who doesnt want to play for us anyway

90% of the pundits who frequent this website have never kicked a football further than the nearest garage door let alone played league football and or managed a football club. Fletcher is an intelligent guy who has proven professional footballing experience. Why would he waste his time pursuing someone who in his professional judgement would be incapable of making a contribution to the team.

Of course he has to work within a constrained financial budget so the quality of player he can afford will be limited but he is not stupid and will not waste that resource if he genuinely believes the player will add value. He may not always be right but I suspect his judgement is a lot better than the pasty eating armchair critics who would struggle to bend over to pick up a football let alone kick one!

Presto, I know what you're trying to say, but on the basis of having played league football, Jose Mourinho should never have an opnion or ever had the chance to manage a football club. Different sport, same arguement but Clive Woodward should never have been given the England rugby job and won the world cup with them. At what point of our fledgling football careers are we allowed to express an opinion? School boy, Park, Sunday, Saturday, P&D, South Western League?

Carl Flecther has been given the job as manager of Argyle and ultimately has the final say and to his knowledge we bow, but I beleive that this board is all about our own personal opinions - whatever we think.

I would love to see Rhys come to Argyle and be a roaring success, but it is also a measure to how far we have fallen.

Tugboat,

Of course everyone has a right to an opinion but I do think we without any great competence at the game(me included) should not be too quick to condemn those who should know what they are doing.

As far as Clive Woodward goes he holds 21 Caps for England, played for the British Lions and Leicester Tigers !

So as the Man says give Rhys a chance.

Forgot to mention Tugboat, Jose M actually played professional football and made 94 senior club appearances in the league. He also holds qualifications in coaching and in physical education so it is not as though he rose from the armchair one day and instantly turned into a top class manager.

But as you say we all have the right to an opinion.

I think youv'e mis understood my view.

I'm not mocking Ryhs for being a 32 year old fireman/part time footballer. His record in his semi pro career is second to none and he's earned that.

My bite was the opinion that he could offer far more than the 2 professional strikers that we have already at the club today. What does that say about Chadwick and Feeney?

I understand the value of strikers and for a club in our transiton we'll never really compete for the best strikers in the league for a while yet so make doing with a very average strikeforce is likely to carry on into the season.

I'm hoping that Ryhs signs because althou he's unproven at this level, i think he can be a handful in the box and worth taking a punt on.

I'd like a pacey striker to partner him now. Young Lecointe could be an option, maybe a fringe championship player on loan looking for games but I'm most certainly willing to give Ryhs a chance if he came.

What happened to being realistic? What happened to the ' let's be thankful we have a club and a Mr Brent'? This post seems to contradict all you have been preaching to 'the deluded ones'
