I think Bill Shortt can be recognised from his ample girth! I note Argyle with Bill in goal, played away at Spurs in seasons 1945/46, 46/47, 47/48, 48/49 and 49/50. It was not a very lucky ground for Argyle as they lost there in all these seasons. The tall player/defender in the background looks like Pat Jones, which would make the photo taken during the last 3 seasons, when he was actually playing for Argyle.

Here's a pic I've always liked, which is almost certainly the same game (see something hanging against the white fence, directly under the Shelf gangway).:

Our centre-half looks like John Oakes (http://www.greensonscreen.co.uk/gosdb-p ... sp?pid=615). The Spurs centre-forward is Len Duquemin.

Game details (inc. programme bits) here: http://www.greensonscreen.co.uk/gosdb-m ... 1947-10-18

Pafcprogs, by all means post this on that forum if you want.

I have that picture in a frame somewhere, not sure mine is autographed though. Was Bill Shortt, we signed him from Chester for £1000 and he went on to play for Wales. Club Legend!!!

Bill Shortt ran the Golden Hind for a long time I recall.

I am sure some posters on here would have been regulars there during his time as landlord.

As a wee lad, I seem to recall Bill Short playing in goal at Wadebridge's Ground. I am not sure whether the SWL had actually started at that time, or whether it was an old Cornwall Senior League game, but Bill Murphy, was definitely playing for Wadebridge. He was an ex-pro with Bradford, and was a stalwart batsman for Cornwall for many years. My weakness is that I cannot remember if Bill Short was playing for Wadebridge or the opposition! I recall standing behind the goal at the A39 end, and actually holding a hard shot above my head from an attempt that just missed the goal. When I threw the ball back into play, he asked me if I wanted his job. Kid's memories!
