LET'S HAVE IT.

Wasn't expecting that. With Labour in a spin I can only see a landslide for the Tories.

Surely the only real question is how big will the Conservative majority be?

I can see Labour getting in, as people are sick of Brexit and of the Tories. But yeah wasn't expecting that it seemed that she changed her mind over having it and now she announces we are having it.

I wonder why she chose to call a snap General Election, now of all times (a month after the local elections on the 4th May), when all along she ruled it out?

I wonder if the police investigation into Tory Party spending at the last election has forced her hand here? If those 20-odd results were nulled then she would lose her already slim majority in the House (working majority of just 17, IIR).

Pretty obvious I would have thought. It's opportunisitic given two recent polls showing a lead of 21% - unprecedented in mid-term. It also removes the criticism around her being an unelected PM.

The Tories might see some localised pressures from a somewhat rejuvenated Liberal Democrats (e.g. in the SW), but that will likely be balanced by UKIP voters moving back now that their ambition has been achieved. Hard to see anything but a convincing majority at this stage - 7 weeks not to say/do anything stupid.

Had to be done - the Tory party mandate has changed significantly since the last election. But I don't think it will go quite as well as May thinks it will. Lib Dems are making a bit of a comeback and think they will stand a good chance of claiming back a chunk of the seats they lost in the last election. They at least have a clear message which will appeal to a lot of people. Labour can't say the same at the moment but even they can expect to keep a lot of their safe seats. SNP will probably dominate Scotland again. As with all elections recently the polls should be taken with a pinch of salt. Who knows what will happen!

Squeaky bum time for a lot of Labour MPs.

As a life-long liberal I find this great news. Tories are guaranteed to win, but a great chance for lib-dems to re-establish themselves.

My left-leaning friends whine and complain about the Tories and about Theresa May not having been leader when they were last voted in. Fine.

Now she's given them the chance to vote her out they continue to whine and complain that she's changed her mind about the election.

There's just no pleasing some people....

Yep.

But if parliament votes for an early election with a 2/3 majority then it goes ahead. Nothing wrong with that is there?

She's giving people the chance to vote her out.

Take it.
