Having failed to make an impact with their leader standing in the UK's Brexit capital, do they now have any future? I think (and hope) not.

Indeed – they were a repugnant stain on our political landscape. There may be some misguidedly naïve souls who swallowed the lie that they were some sort ‘libertarian’ movement and many others who were full of understandable anger at the failure of mainstream politicians to give help them the help they needed and so turned to UKIP. But let’s not kid ourselves that they weren’t also happy to appeal to the bigots and downright racists who represent a sizeable proportion of their support. Their whole raison d’etre was a xenophobic nationalism combined with the sort of hard-line right wing zealotry that would have made even Maggie Thatcher at her worst gag on. I’m speaking in the past tense – Good riddance to bad rubbish.

There was an interesting comment from one political analyst this morning after their Stoke by-election defeat, saying that if they hadn't put up such a high-profile candidate, odds are more UKIP voters would have jumped ship to the Tories and Labour could well have lost the seat.

That being said, I think it's a tad early to start talking about the death of UKIP. If one thing is obvious, there seems to be a place for a party with cross-party views which could attract traditional Tory and Labour voters alike. Politics is a-changin'...

Ukip has evolved into a more acceptable face of the BNP, and you are right Pilgrimage we are now a one party state driven by The Daily Mail / middle England.
The British political system has become the domain of the older generations who tend to take more of an interest, and turn out to vote more than the young who are more likely to be disilusioned or disinterested.

The Conservatives have latched onto this and with their new constituancy boundary changes and our antiquated voting system, SNP dominance in Scotland and the collapse of any oposition in England we will be stuck witha conservative government for a long time to come.

I can't see why anyone would vote for them now, but it is interesting to note that they continue to poll consistently around the 10/11% mark and have done since the turn of the year. Whilst people may bemoan the accuracy of polling, they are at least a good long term indicator.

UKIP are going to slowing peter out and without Mr Farage leading them I think they have a serious charisma defecit. They still have a role though while the remoaner union is mobilised and primed for the attack.
