That's brilliant, the Koch brothers have chucked millions of dollars at desperately trying to get everyone to forget about global warming. Surely even they'll start trying to do something positive now?

According to this article they will: they wanted the science clarified first.

Everyone'll be selling their car then?

No, thought not.

I liked that tanker captain guy in Waterworld. He was cool.

That's the point isn't it? The science has pretty much been proven beyond doubt, the hard bit is getting Joe Bloggs to actually do something about it. For once it's the big governments that are taking the lead in general - if the Republican Presidential candidate is prepared to state in public that he believes humanity is the main contributor to global warming, we're heading in the right direction, but it's not a huge amount of use if people (like me, shamefully) continue to drive everywhere and take unneccesary flights.

There is no chance when you have the likes of China, India, Indonesia polluting and pillaging the land.

Don't go beating yourself up Chris!

When the advocates for global warming cease to have their conferences in places like Singapore, Bali, Hawaii, Seychelles etc., THEN I will start doing something about it but to have it rammed down my throat by people who hop on a 747 for a week's hot air in some exotic 5 star hotel...well that sort of rankles a bit!

And no! I'm not giving up the 3 litre turbo diesel SUV either! :)

Hmm, 4.0l XR6, fully ducted reverse cycle aircon at home, numerous flights all over Oz and to Europe.
Not too helpful to the planet, but the wife does take the bus on occasions!!

I only need 8 more qualifying UK business flights before the end of the year to upgrade to Silver. I think I can manage that.

Now if a couple of you tree huggers agree to forego your holidays again next year we can all come out of this "carbon neutral". Who's with me?!?!

With also countries de-forresting on a massive scale to grow crops. The West can tinker with anti pollution measures (USA promoting diesel cars for example), but it's the rest of the world that also mostly needs to contribute:

"Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth’s land surface; now they cover a mere 6% and experts estimate that the last remaining rainforests could be consumed in less than 40 years. One and one-half acres of rainforest are lost every second".
Deforestation in the Amazon

12-15 million hectares of forest are lost each year.
Deforestation is responsible for 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions.Tropical forests, where deforestation is most prevalent, hold more than 210 gigatonnes of carbon.
87% of global deforestation occurs in just 10 countries, with Brazil and Indonesia accounting for 51% of emissions from forest loss.

WWF Deforestation.

Experts estimates that we are losing 137 plant, animal and insect species every single day due to rainforest deforestation. That equates to 50,000 species a year. As the rainforest species disappear, so do many possible cures for life-threatening diseases. Currently, 121 prescription drugs sold worldwide come from plant-derived sources. While 25% of Western pharmaceuticals are derived from rainforest ingredients, less that 1% of these tropical trees and plants have been tested by scientists.
There were an estimated ten million Indians living in the Amazonian Rainforest five centuries ago. Today there are less than 200,000.
The Amazon Rainforest has been described as the "Lungs of our Planet" because it provides the essential environmental world service of continuously recycling carbon dioxide into oxygen. More than 20 percent of the world oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest. In 1983, there were no U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturers involved in research programs to discover new drugs or cures from plants. Today, over 100 pharmaceutical companies and several branches of the US government, including giants like Merck and The National Cancer Institute, are engaged in plant research projects for possible drugs and cures for viruses, infections, cancer, and even AIDS

Tin hat at the ready...I've no intention to defend or prove my opinion but I think 'climate change' as its now called has very little to do with human activity. This cycle has happened for thousands of years and I'm sure we weren't driving SUV's then.
I think we should definitely treat our resources more carefully but whos in control?
I'm not cutting down the rain forrest or suppressing green tech its the oil cartels etc.
Bono and sting dont include themselves when telling us to live like 17th century peasants I believe bono once had his hat flew around the world on a private jet because he forgot it! How many houses and boats, cars, planes, helicopters, staff, banquets does eco warrior Prince Charles have?
A damn site more than us but we're still the problem.
I have read books from the 60's and beyond that state eco issues will be used as a tool to further aims of certain political classes such as fabian socialists. Agenda 21 and club of Rome literature says exactly this decades ago.
Of course though if we all pay more tax the boogie man will go away and those sad looking polar bears you see on a melted ice burg will have pristine snowy wilderness to frolic in.
