They're the first Premier league club to show support for safe standing areas. Personally I can't see it happening.

Suggest they sort the team out first if its a tool to try and win fans back...

Seeing so many annoy the hell out of other fans by insisting on standing even though they have paid for a seat I would think it is a very sensible proposal.

A great idea. Standing will improve the atmosphere no end. A standing area and a resaonable team, and the HP atmosphere will improve no end. Great to see a top club serious about giving it a try.

As its now been proved that the tradgedy at Hillsboro which instigated the all seater stadium was no fault of the fans , then surely the least the FA can do is work with clubs to try and re-introduce safe standing areas .

The problem is thou that the FA are so stuck in there ways that they wont admit to the mistakes they made in 1989 by staging a match of that magnitude in a stadium that had no safety certificate .

We can only hope they take there heads out of the sand and admit to there mistakes and try to repair there repution by allowing safe standing areas as the atmosphere at most clubs has died since the all seater rules came in ..

Not holding my breathe thou

not sure it has much to do with the league as to whether terraces are allowed or not? otherwise morecombe wouldn't have been allowed to build their new ground? What it boils down to us a matter of choice, the choice to stand or sit without someone having a go at you for doing either ( I have seen both).

They're allowed outside the top two divisions.

Lucky sods! If only we could get the Mayflower terrace open for one last hurrah*.

* based on previous stadium announcements it could be a very long hurrah.

I can't see why there would be a problem with terracing - it will be known how many people can stand safely in a particular area so just need to make sure that limit isn't exceeded.

We all know with Hillsborough a huge number entered into the terraces so a tragedy was inevitable.

I don't think a lot of people don't quite grasp how safe standing will work.

You will still need a ticket and you will still have a designated place to stand. Safe standing areas will not allow fans to enter and then decise who they stand beside like on the old open terraces.

At the moment we have standing areas at grounds but they are designed to be seating areas. In other words people are standing in front of their seats which unfortunately is dangerous compared to when people are sitting. Making people sit has not worked so why not make these areas safer by bringing in these new arrangements.

Telling people where to stand? Yes, I can see that working

I would also suggest that most all seater stadia are too steep to revert to safe standing, unless I am missing something.

I don't see why that ought to be the case though- surely only allowing a certain amount of people into the designated standing area would solve any potential dangers of overcrowding. Why the need to tell someone where to stand?

What I mean is, these safe standing areas have rows and numbers that relate to your ticket. Just like you have an allocated seat now, you will have an allocated standing station on the terrace.

Yeah I understood I just wonder why that has to be the case.

Why can't your ticket just say 'standing section' or suchlike? That way there's still no danger of overcrowding by allowing more than allocated into the standing area and fans in that section also have the freedom to stand where and with whom they like within the section.
