I don't normally pay too much attention to the Champions League these days, but there are some seriously odd scores so far. Man Utd 0-2 Braga, Shakhtar 1-0 Chelsea, and Barcelona 0-1 Celtic!

Surely the Shaktar score wasn't a surprise? They are pretty handy.

Not so much a surprise as deeply enjoyable.

Expected Barca to crush Celtic, hence me giving them a one goal handicap.

Oops my mistake

Sky aren't the only ones (and of course they will hype it up so people will watch it.) Your average punter or the talksport brigade are just as bad.

Agreed.

It's a great exciting league and it pains me to say it but the quality isn't all that anymore.

There was a time where it genuinely was the best league around. If you put any one of Wigan, Southampton, Villa, Norwich, Reading or QPR into the Premier League of 10 years ago or even 4/5 years ago they'd be made mincemeat of and would all go down. Now, at least 3 of them will stay up. If you put the Newcastle or Middlesborough teams of 2008/9 into this Premier League or the Leeds team of 2004 just to name three examples, I think they'd be safe as houses this season. You don't have to be as good as you used to be to make it in the PL anymore. Also, look at how so many FL players such as Lambert, Graham, Holt and Morrison have made the step up so easily. They never used to as much as that.

Also, United's team of last season got 2 more points than they did in 2007/8. That was their team that had Ronaldo on blinding form, Berbatov at his peak, Tevez playing for them, Evra on great form, Vidic at his peak, a better keeper than De Gea or Lindegaard in Van Der Sar, Rooney on better form. They got 2 more points than they did not because they were better but because the competition was worse.

I also hate it when the bollocks comes up about "the most competitive top league in Europe where everyone beats everyone". What they really mean by that is, it's more competitive than Spain and that's all it boils down to. Look at Germany where a side is title contenders one season and in a relegation battle the next. Bundesliga is much more competitive than the PL.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching PL football and the drama is fantastic. I'm not saying it's wrong to prefer the PL of course as football is for enjoyment and whatever floats your boat is best for the individual. But to claim it's the best in quality or in competitiveness is arguing on very flimsy ground.

Yes but Sky do show some interest in football outside the Premiership at least..

The only decent presenter on Talksport is Danny Kelly..the rest are these just to wind fans of the big teams up.

Look at the West Ham side that got relegated in 2003 - David James, Michael Carrick, Tomas Repka, Lee Bowyer, Freddie Kanoute, Paulo di Canio and Jermain Defoe were all in the squad. Nowadays that side would have finished in the top half.

English top tier football is on the slide. Over paid over rated league that is slowly pricing people out of the pride sport of the country. The same goes with the national side.

I like some MP's plea in the news this week of people cutting ties with clubs squeezing the average joe out of there hard earned money and start supporting lower league/local non league teams who offer a real value for money.

Perfect example to back up my point.

The Premier League used to be brimming and overflowing with quality. Nowadays, not so.
