1 year deal.

Keep him fit and what a signing it would be for them.

Great signing for stoke, should still be in the England set up.

Owen is still only 10 goals away from being England's record goalscorer. He'd have flown by it if he'd been luckier with injuries. Such a shame his career has been so blighted. Hope he is a success at Stoke. Always been a gentleman on and off the pitch.

Am I the only one that thinks he's still good enough? A lot of people think I'm off my head (I probably am) but he would score a few if he was playing football and was 100% fit. I've always liked him and it'd be great to see him pull off the impossible and grab 15-20 goals and get back in the England team.

If he can stay fit he is still plenty good enough.

Remember in the 1990's he scored a hat-trick for England under 16's at Home Park, i was on The Argyle Groundstaff at the time (first stint) in all honesty the game should not have gone ahead, the pitch was wrecked after that, BUT so glad they played it, the next game against Birmingham was postponed, Argyle ended up relegated, must have been the Shilton, McCall, Osman season

He'll be a foot shorter than every single one of his team-mates.

How he's managed another contract is beyond me. His recent* record is a disgrace.

2005-2007 just 14 appearances for Newcastle.
Last season just 4 appearances for Man Utd.

131 appearances in the last 7 seasons. That's an average of just under 19 appearances per season.

*not that recent

Disgrace is a bit harsh. I'd say unlucky.

Stoke have offered a 'earn as you play deal' where his basic wage is quite modest backed up more substantially if he gets on the pitch safeguarding the risk.

If he was here, we'd want him shot.

We* did with McNamee, Wright-Phillips (when he was first here), Mpenza and Walton. Fans don't like clubs signing injury prone players and then seeing them earn wages for being injured.

I'm surprised Pulis has done this as he always seemed to prefer fit, physically strong players. I suppose Owen is close to a few racecourses up there.

*a lot did

Yeah I am not doubting that we were skeptical of the likes of whom who just mentioned, however if Owen came to Home Park on a play and pay basis contract, then I would not be complaining.

I Agree. Will be interesting to watch how he does with a decent run of games in a team. Good signing TP.

I agree with hairy, although I wouldn't call his recent record a disgrace or unlucky - a bit of both maybe.

I can't believe all the "Owen love." I thought most of you were critical of the premier league and what it stood for. How the players were not loyal, how they were just motivated by money. Yet we slag off league 2 players for doing the same when in actual fact if they suddenly had to retire through injury they might financially be in a bit of trouble (I appreciate there's insurance and stuff but anyway.) Also Hairy's right - we've slagged off plenty of "crocked" players that have been here. Here's a guy who has picked up massive wages for very very little in return over the past 6-7 years. In fact the goal against Manchester City a few years ago is one of his only memorable highlights.

Yes he has been unlucky with injuries, although I read a few fascinating articles a few years back about some of his injuries possibly being related to the way he ran. Anyway since I'm fairly sure he has had to change the way he plays, his main asset back in the day of course was pace. This has gone but he was always a natural finisher (I remember I saw his first goal in the premier league at Selhurst Park a consolation for Liverpool against Wimbledon.)

For me he is the epitomy of the modern-day mercenary footballer - What do you reckon happened at Liverpool? He wanted sh*t loads of money and of course ends up via Madrid/Newcastle at Manchester United! Tut tut. (In fairness he was good at Real Madrid, should have started more matches.) His attitude at Newcastle though stunk. Absolutely smelt of the brown stuff.

But I can't believe someone has suggested he should be playing for England? On what basis? He hasn't played for nearly 5 years! I wouldn't stick him in the team even if he scored 20 for Stoke this season (which is very possible of course if he stays injury free) because I would shake my head and ask him where he's been all these years? The bench! The nerve! It's like Paul Scholes retiring early. Fine, your personal decision, but don't expect to be held as a "world great" or be given "special treatment." Scholes you retired early when England still needed you, full stop. Owen's probably not that bothered about playing for England now anyway, unless the FA throw in a horse or 2 for nowt.

Also tugboat it's not pay as you play. That's probably why the deal has taken so long. Owen's not going to sit on the bench for nothing - it's something like a 30k a week basic with add-ons if he plays and scores in the week which could amount to double his basic wage.

Whilst I reckon Crouch/Walters/Owen could create a decent front 3 Pulis really really has to watch it. If his side are relegated then they are in the mire, financially big time!
