Worth keeping a close eye on:

Kieffer Moore, 18 year old, striker, Truro City. A 6ft 4in powerful striker formerly playing with Paignton Saints in the South Devon League Division Two. Impressed on trial during the 12/13 pre-season scoring against Tiverton Town and Falmouth Town before signing a 1 year contract with Truro. Moore is a real handful - dominant in the air, good finishing ability, two good feet and also has decent pace. He currently has 13 goals in the Conference South since making the considerable step up in class from the South Devon League.

Matt Andrew, 23 year old, centre/right midfielder, Bideford. The attacking midfielder joined Bideford from Launceston and has since gone on to play in over 180+ games for Bideford, scoring 50+ goals in the process. During his time at the club he has won the Devon St Luke’s Bowl, the Southern League South & West title and the Western League Premier Division title. A quality attacking midfielder with pace, two good feet, excellent vision/passing ability and an eye for goal. During the 11/12 season Andrew top scored for the club in the Southern League Div One South & West with 15 goals as Bideford were crowned champions. So far during 12/13 Andrew has scored 10 goals in the Southern League Premier Division. Back in 2009 his manager Sean Joyce said this about him: "It's worth paying a fiver just to watch him sometimes. He excites me — and I have played League football. At this level you see players who can tackle or head or score goals. But he's got great dribbling ability, he's quick and he can do the lot. You would think he's come down from a higher league but he only came here from Launceston a year ago." Lovely goal v Torquay - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHerpGZ7Lfs

Duncan Watmore, 18 year old, right winger/striker, Altrincham. Watmore is former Manchester United youth team player. So far during the 12/13 season Watmore has put in a number of eye catching performances in the Conference North and has impressed with his pace, creativity and shooting ability, reportedly attracting the attention of Football League scouts. During the 11/12 season in all competitions he made 2 starts (9 sub apps) and scored 1 goal. So far during the 12/13 season he has made 18 starts (9 sub apps) and has scored 9 goals.

Dan Moody, 21 year old, right or left winger, Guildford City. A signing from Croydon Athletic in 2011. A winger with a real eye for goal - during the 11/12 season he scored 32 goals in the Combined Counties Premier Division to help Guildford City to promotion and subsequently won the Supporters Player of the Year. During the 12/13 Southern League Division One Central season he has continued to impress scoring 21 goals in 32 appearances (all comps) in total so far.

Connor Hall, 19 year old, left back/left midfield/centre back, Bury Town. Had a trial with Leyton Orient during the 12/13 season and was close to a move before the deal fell through over a disagreement between the two clubs. Reportedly also being monitored by Charlton Athletic (who signed Nick Pope from Bury Town), Millwall and Ipswich Town. A versatile player who is primarily a left back or centre back, but can also play equally well in a left midfield role or in central midfield. Tall, physically strong, good technique and a tenacious tackler. Has represented England Colleges in the past.

Daniel Carr, 18 year old, Striker (or winger), Dulwich Hamlet. Scored 14 goals in 13 starts (3 sub apps) for Dulwich Hamlet so far during the 12/13 season. Former Reading academy player. Was called up for training with Trinidad & Tobago Under 20's in 2011. Spent time on trial at Stevenage during 12/13 pre-season scoring against Eastbourne Borough.

Mark Ford, 22 year old, striker, Weymouth. During the 11/12 season Ford scored 35 goals in 22 appearances for his old club Blandford United in the Dorset Premier League before his move to Southern League Premier side Weymouth, where he scored 7 goals in 6 starts (8 sub apps), which equates to seven goals in just 691 minutes of first-team football. During the 09/10 season he finished as Dorset Premier League top scorer with 27 goals from 31 starts for Blandford United. During 10/11 he scored 9 goals in 10 appearances for Blandford, and also 5 goals in 7 games for Western League side Gillingham Town. A quick and direct striker who likes to play on the shoulder and has a good finish. Probably the best prospect Weymouth have had since Stuart Beavon. So far during the 12/13 season Ford has scored 17 goals in all competitions.

Maison McGeechan, 21 year old, left or right winger, Kendal Town. Former Bolton Wanderers academy player and England U16 and U17 International. He scored 2 goals on trial with the Brentford development squad during 11/12 pre season to help them record a 4-4 draw against a Liverpool XI. Following his release from Bolton and trial at Brentford he joined his local team Ambleside United where he scored 30 goals in 39 appearances before joining Kendal Town in December 2012 where he has impressed scoring 3 goals in 5 games.

Ross Allen, 25 year old, striker, Guernsey. Scored 66 goals in just 43 during the 11/12 season. Finished top scorer for the England Amateur team in the UEFA Regions Cup in Croatia, and was also top scorer in Guernsey's FA NLS cup success which sealed their qualification to the UEFA Regions Cup. Finished Guernsey top scorer and Player of the Year for 3 seasons in a row in their previous guise. He also demonstrated his potential during 11/12 when scored a hat-trick in a pre-season game against a Bristol City U19 Academy side and scored two goals against AFC Wimbledon. He again demonstrated his potential during 12/13 pre-season when he scored a hat-trick against Exeter City. Pacey, direct with a real eye for goal - a player currently playing far below his natural level. So far during the 12/13 season Allen has scored 30 goals in 20 appearances.

Spoke to Kevin Summerfield about 5 years ago regarding Matt Andrew, frustratingly all he said was that it was a big step up from the standard he was playing to then Championship football  But he had class then and with a bit of coaching I was sure he would be able to play for Argyle in years to come!!

Hello Mole,

An interesting read there.
Where do you get your info from? :)

I have watched Danny Carr many times and although he is a bit raw at times, he certainly has some excellent attributes. He reminds me of a Lukaku type player. Puts himself about well for his young years, and is a half decent finisher. Won't be long until he's in the league somewhere.

The best player at the club though is a 21 year old 5ft 4in midfielder/playmaker called Erhun Oztumer.
He's an attacking midfielder player who has scored approx 20 goals in as many games this season, along with countless assists (including many for Carr).
Strong on the ball, rarely wastes it, sees 'through balls' so naturally, pace and awareness way above Ryman League Level.

I know many clubs would be put off with his height, but hes that good, that you forget his lack of inches.

I'd like to see Argyle take a chance on these two.

I don't think non league potential is what we should be looking at right now.

It's a luxury taking punts at lower league players after we have constructed a suitable team capable of at least mid table security.

We've tried 3 experienced prolific non-league strikers = didn't work !!!!!
I think the time to try the occassional non-league Messi is when we are stable and beginning to climb the leagues. Right now and for a year or 2 we need experience in FL players who also know some of the black arts.
Lets spend that time improving our good youngsters

I'm in agreement with you Tony, but the two I have seen are exceptional players with excellent footballing brains. I'd say they are worth taking a chance on.

Here's a recent article...

http://www.mercury-today.co.uk/searchre ... l=Football

DULWICH Hamlet boss Gavin Rose has revealed that there is Premier League and Championship interest in Daniel Carr, Erhun Oztumer and Xavier Vidal.

But the Champion Hill chief does not want to lose any of the trio during the January transfer window.

Former Reading winger Carr has scored 14 goals in 12 matches since being switched to a striking role while midfielder Oztumer - who quit as a pro in Turkey to be back nearer his family - has chipped in with 17 goals in 23 games.

Rose said: "We'd like to hold onto our boys through January if we can to give us the best chance of competing in the league, which is so tight.

"If someone comes in for them at the end of the season then we would give them our blessing as a club.

"It's the normal attention from clubs but we're trying not to focus on that and concentrate instead on the boys progressing."

I spoke to someone involved with a Conf South club at the start of the season and he was raving about Matt Andrew's ability and reckons he is more than good enough to play league football. That assistant manager is now head of recruitment of 12-18 year olds at a Championship club so he obviously knows a player when he sees one. It will be a shame if Andrew isn't given the opportunity to step up because he is good enough.

This following clip is an example of what Andrew is all about IMHO - positive as he dribbles the ball forward, gets fouled, picks himself up and then demonstrates his quick thinking, vision and passing ability as he sets up a goal with an inch perfect pass from the following freekick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdcyPD98E4s

I'm a big fan of the non-league game and watch a lot of football.

You're spot on regarding Otzumer, a really classy player and another with the ability to step up. Paul McCallum (West Ham), Quade Taylor (Crystal Palace) and Michael Chambers (Crystal Palace) have all recently left Dulwich for bigger things and, like you say, won't be long until the likes of Carr and Otzumer are in the League.

So many other good players in non-league i haven't yet mentioned:

Jamie White, 22 year old, Striker, Salisbury City. Former 06/07 Southampton Academy Player of the Year and Under 18's top goalscorer. During the 11/12 season he scored 51 goals in just 32 league games for Winchester City in the Wessex League. He also scored a further 8 goals in cup competitions. Spent time on trial at Bournemouth during the 11/12 season. White's potential was first recognised by the Saints Academy as an eight year old, although it wasn't until he turned 15 that he began to play regularly for the clubs youth setup after a brief spell at Chelsea. He is a quick striker with good movement, good first touch and clinical finishing ability with either foot. Has scored 18 goals so far during 12/13.

Karl Ashton, 24 year old, striker, Stafford Rangers. Former Derby County youth team player and former England U17 and U18 International. Targetman striker with two good feet, good finishing ability and an aerial threat.
Nice finish - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMxDnJDjpJ4
Nice finish x2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0oIh5OS8o4

Alex Read, striker, Brentwood Town. Was named 11/12 Tilbury FC Managers Player of the Year after finishing top scorer with 25 goals. So far during the 12/13 season he has scored 29 goals and has attracted the attention of Dag & Red and Leyton Orient.

Rhys Turner, 18 year old, right winger/striker, Lancaster City. Came through the successful Myerscough College football programme which has helped produce the likes of Anthony Pilkington (Norwich City). Recently called into the England Schoolboys Under 18 squad for the Centenary Shield tournament. Quick, direct, skillfull with a real eye for goal. Outstanding potential.

Lee Potts, 22 year old, left back or left midfield, Grantham Town. Primarily an attacking left back who likes to overlap with good technique, passing and tackling ability. Potts helped Grantham win the 11/12 Northern Premier League Division One South title and his form during the season earned him a trial in April 2012 at Premier League QPR. He is said to have played well and scored a goal during his 85 minutes on the pitch against a strong Tottenham Hotspur side. Potts is fast approaching 150 appearances for the club during his 3 seasons - during the 10/11 season made 48 appearances and scored 8 goals. During 11/12 Potts was a regular for Grantham making 50 appearances and chipped in with 7 goals. He was also named in the Northern Premier League Division One South Team of the Year for his impressive performances. This is what his manager Jimmy Albans said after the QPR trial: “Pottsy trained with QPR on Monday and played for the reserves on Tuesday.” Albans said. “He played 85 minutes as a left midfielder against a strong Spurs side watched by Harry Redknapp and got himself a goal as well.” His Grantham chairman Steve Boam also had this to say: “He has earned the contract we gave him at the club.” Said Mr Boam. “He is contracted to the club until the end of next season, but we are expecting QPR to be in touch with us and we will see where it goes from there.”

Tony Stokes, 26 year old, central midfield/striker, Concord Rangers. Former West Ham youth and reserve team captain who also played 30 times for Hungarian side Ujpest during the 09/10 season as he helped them qualify for the Europa League. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Stokes

Tom Pett, 21 year old, right/left winger, Wealdstone. Scored 14 goals in 44 games during 10/11 for Potters Bar Town which resulted in a 11/12 pre season trial at Brighton, where he scored in a development squad game against Watford in August 2011. After his exploits during the 10/11 season he was awarded Managers Player Of The Year, Supporters Player Of The Year and Players Player Of The Year. During 11/12 Pett scored 11 goals in 25 games in the Ryman League Division One North before a move to Ryman Premier side Wealdstone where he is already extremely highly rated. Nice goal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4fQWec2FDc

I have watched Matt Andrew loads of times as I only live a stones throw away from Bideford afc, yes your right he is a good player n could potentially do well at L1 or 2 level, another player at Bideford that can be outstanding and runs defenders ragged at times is Sean Downing , he must be one of the most fouled players in league.
