Hi – all you car anoraks. Just after some advice really. 2 sons need to change cars (with my help) with one a little urgent to fit a 'baby seat' in. I've / we've chosen to sell them and then haggle on next cars with no part-exchange involved.

Son 1 (baby) has a 106 Van XAD 1997 120K MOT late May and it sailed through with a few 'perished' and 'bulbs' etc. Very reliable but being an old diesel a bit loud (probably like someone's missus). :funny: My suggestion of buying a large size dog cage and placing it in the back of the van did not meet approval.
Do I sell as is with 9 months MOT (£600 ??) or do I MOT again and sell with 12 months MOT and up the price a little (£700) How saleable is this van ??

Son 2 is similar situation but not linked to a baby and is slightly more debatable and not quite so urgent but needs to be done as soon as we can find a suitable replacement.
He has a 1998 Megane 1.4E Liberte 46K on clock (full service history) MOT due Jan and it passed the last MOT with nothing wrong.
Do I sell as is with 5 months MOT (£750 ??) or do I MOT again now and sell with 12 months MOT and up the price a little (£850) Is this price about right considering the mileage ??

Thanks men

Leave the van as it is, spend money on a good valet.

As for the Megane if you MOT it you risk a bill of more then £100 extra you hope to make if it fails.

Time is better spent cleaning then, writing a good advert and taking good pictures for your advert.

Both should sell but be prepare for lots of idoits talking rubbish to you!

You may be asking a little much for the Renault but you can always come down if needed.

:funny: :funny: Hi Doc - I should have mentioned the number of vanity mirrors as well. Anyhow Son 1 fleeced me of £2K today and I get the van to sell. My garage man, who is brill to the extent that if he couldn't fix my car for a few days I would catch a bus, sells a few cars and produced a Meriva 04 60K - ideal for the pram etc. Son did say he would pay me back and I wet myself laughing. My view is give the kids the cash now and not in 30 years time. :scarf:

This. Make them look as presentable as possible and stick them on Ebay. A long MOT is a long MOT. 9 months is as good as 12. IF they were down on a couple or three months then get a ticket on it. Otherwise wash, wax and photos of everything in the sunshine.

Megane has low mileage so should be an ideal first car for someone, or an old dear to run down the Kwop once a week.

I wish my dad was on the same view as yourself. I recently had twins and never had a penny from him for the kids or anything we needed but meh thats a whole other story. If your garage friend has some cars to sell perhaps make a deal with him if he can sell them?

Without delving its often ''can't'' rather than ''won't''
His g/fnds dad left when she was 1 never to be heard of again and her mum then had a real task with 3 girls and, not surprisingly, no spare cash. His twin brother said to me the other day that 'James' was concerned about money when the ''little Argyle fan'' pops out and so I sat him down and said ''don't worry at all - just keep your job and with any tax credits and me there is no problem'' He seemed to lose a weight off his shoulders.
I'm guessing your twins are younger than mine (boys 24) so don't worry - its get worse - wait for driving lessons / cars / insurance :funny: :funny:
